Vita brevis est, ars longa

Obayifo is a vampire lady from African mythology. Her name is an Akan word often translated as “witch” or “sorcerer.” She feeds on fear and despair but also likes human blood. Obayifo can leave her body and transform into a ball of blue light, in which form she flies through the air at night. 

Wendigo is gigantic bony spirit, over fifteen feet tall, that had once been human but had been transformed into a creature by the use of black magic. It has sharp claws and heart of ice. Wendigo usually hides in forest caves and eats any man, woman or child who ventured into its territory. 

Ponaturi are creatures from Māori mythology, described as sea fairies. They have red hair, white skin and fingers with long, sharp claws. Ponaturi spend their days underwater, only coming onto land at night because sunlight is fatal to them.

After sunset encantados turn into beautiful young men with light skin. They come to local parties where they seduce girls, impregnates them, and then returns to the river in the morning to become a dolphin again.

* Polunochnitsa or Nightwraith is the spirit of fields and night, personification of insomnia. At midnight she overtakes people walking in the field. Nightwraith can enter the house through open doors or shutters to steal a child.
