A new engine?
I started using Unity in 2011. And from then on, other than the occasional dabble into Game Maker, Unity + C# is my go to for making games. It’s not the BEST GAME ENGINE EVER! But it gets the job done, and is easy to use.
But for the last few months, I've been thinking about moving on to something else(I can do another wall of text for this). And so, for Ludum dare #42, I decided to try a new game engine. Was split between Defold and Godot. Some of the considerations I had were:
Remember the roguelike that I wanted to finish within 100hrs? I gave up 😂. Going ahead and building a full game with this concept.
Here I have playable levels with 2 types of enemy, loots dropping, using items, etc.
On [One Upon Light]
The game has been taken down by SUTD Game Lab. 2 main reasons.
Firstly, the game isn't doing that well. I won't reveal sales figures, but our cut of the revenue share was.. nevermind..
The other reason is, the game lab is closing down. I never had the chance to go through GAMBIT/GIP as an intern(was born too early), but when I was working in GAMBIT and SUTD, as a staff, I always envy these kids having the opportunity to make games like that. If only there was something like that when I was a kid. Such pity..
And that is why One Upon Light was taken down. Blu3bird Games is just an outsourced development studio and I don't own the game. I have thought of getting the IP rights and republish it as my own game but.. I'm not sure if I can afford it. I have contacted SUTD about this so, we shall see..
Instead of multiplayer, I have decided to have AI ships in the game. Have been tinkering with AI code the pass few weeks. Ship in the video was controlled by a FSM, using #unity’s animator.

Did a little teaser video for OOPS! and here it is.
Progress at 15hrs of #gamedev time. Basic enemy movements, turn-based system.
A new variant of the old rogue-like game idea. My plan is to finish this game within 100hrs. Here’s a video cap at 9hrs.
More on the game concept later.
recorded gameplay on mah phone
Muffled audio from mic, but yes, there’s sound! And yes.. it’s the end of the month, the game is still far from finish.

WITT prototype - mac osx
And here it is, the roguelike game prototype. Check out http://games.imakegam.es/witt/demo/ for instructions.
I wanted to launch OOPS! last month.. It’s 19th April, and I haven’t even launched the beta!!!!! There is still a bunch of stuff I need to clear before it feels like a playable beta. Hopefully, I can get all these done by end of the week. :|
Menu, transitions and stuff, took the whole day!!

Haven’t been updating this page recently. Hey everyone, I’m still making games!
The idea came late last year and I built a prototype. It got shelved and I wanted to build this 2 player mobile game about tricking/fooling your opponent to win. I stopped after encountering some design issues, went back to this space delivery game..
The above write up will be how I’m going to pitch it to players. That’s basically what the whole game is about. Fly around in your ship, deliver packages, earn coins, buy stuff. I’m like 70-80% done. Will be launching it pretty soon, so stay tune.

Codename: #lootsweeper
What if we cross minesweeper with dungeon exploring?
I don’t exactly remember how this idea came about, but it seems like a workable one. Minesweeper mechanic, while collecting loots in a dungeon, I shall call it Lootsweeper for now.
Looking for the exit, marking enemies, being attacked.
