âĽ, â, âŚ, ⼠*it is always a pleasure seeing you on my dash, especially after all this time*
Much appreciated. Itâs always good to come back and still see some familiar faces running about. Perhaps once things get up and running again, weâll be able to write together once again and flesh out some plot lines (or even alternate universe stuff - because I saw the one plotting ask answer thing you made just a little while ago).

{ ââ...lies leave a mark on your body language and thatâs quite interesting.ââ }
âIs this your way of informing me youâve caught me in a lie?â Brows and smile held in place as Xiao-Mei processed the information spouted to her. It was nothing interesting, admittedly, and nothing that would get her to lose her composure still. There had been nothing that left her mouth that qualified as a falsehood, which meant there was no need to react in the first place. A world-renowned psychologist, however, was doing his damnedest to get something out of her by way of rambling. Honestly, brilliant was not the first thing to come to mind, but it certainly was suitable for getting reactions from even someone above average. Being aware of this though, she wouldnât let him get that triumph so easily, âOr perhaps itâs your way of subtly prodding at me? Attempting to get a baseline, like a polygraph test?â

{ â...unless she was as him pretty good at misleading others.â }
âPsychologists, as you should well know, are not in the business of collecting meaningless tidbits,â Allowing a slender brow to raise ever so slightly, Xiao-Mei found a smile etching itself upon her face. The male before her was amusing to say the least. If anything, she had expected more from someone touted as such a brilliant mind in the field of psychology, but she got someone verging on a fool instead. Yes, she acknowledged this might have been a tactic of the older male, but it was a tactic that rarely (if ever) worked on her. The raven haired woman actually took pride in her ability to remain cool, calm, and collected in the most annoying of situationsâmuch like this one, âItâs far more fun to delve into the human psyche first-hand anyway. Why go for something indirect when the primary source is so available?â

Breath quite visible in the cool air, the sorceress watched silently as her latest exhale curled and rose into the night, becoming invisible as it cooled. Her knees were sore from the impact theyâd made with the pavement just seconds before, but that pain was negligible when compared to how much her heart ached. Why had all of this happened to her now? The sudden appearance of magic, the mishaps that occurred as she practiced, the entities that showed up as well, and the responsibilities thrust upon her: to declare that it had all been too much was a severe understatement. If anything, the additional stress had been in the process of tearing her apart... with this being the absolute tipping point.
A body lay before her, devoid of a rising and falling chest and assumedly lifeless. She thanked God her abilities were not attuned to the death of others, because that wouldâve pushed her over the edge and into whatever abyss awaited those who broke. No, instead she got to experience the detached feeling that came with the death of another person: something that was arguably still terrible for a soul to experience. And without someone to order her grief in the moment, there was very little to keep her in a relatively good place. Her mind was already beginning to void as the corpse grew colder and her gaze became flooded with tears for a person she could not protect in that moment.
It turned out that the warning sheâd received from the tea shop owner (who doubled as her magical mentor) had been all but a ruse. There had been a vengeful spirit on the lose, bent on making her miserable, or worse, for the connection she shared with the Chinese goddess of the Moon, Changâe. She should have taken it far more seriously. She should have trusted the mystical instinct attempting to order her steps. She should have, she should have, she should have. It was all she could say in this moment, despite it not being enough - to bring the dead back to life or travel back in time.
âIâm sorry. Oh my God, Iâm so sorry,â Sobs broke up her speech and tears fell from her face onto the pavement. This would be the first and the last time sheâd feel so powerless to do something, to fix something. It was a miserable, despicable feeling that a person with power should rarely, if ever, feel. If she had something to say about it from this point on, innocents would not be casualties on account of her carelessness ever again... Thoughts funneling through the young womanâs head came to a complete stop as the corpse sputtered and sharply inhaled. Surprise painted itself across the sorceressâ face as she scooted closer to the body, her knees aching further with such careless movement. It seemed she was not weeping for the dead after all, but a soul near death.
âOh God. Ot eht latipsoh htiw uoy!â The forwards and backwards speech left her mouth in a less bumbling, sobbing mess than her apologies had before. The magic took immediately, causing the individual to evaporate from her sight and (prayerfully) appear in the nearest hospital - Emotion and the subconscious had to account for the lack of spell specifics in moments like these. Composure found her briefly afterwards and was followed by resolve. To be put through this sort of ordeal, left in state so fragile and messy, was still nowhere close to acceptable. She would not stand for it and, even more so, was going to solve the problem at its origin. It was time to avenge this innocent soul, dead or not, and come into her new found responsibilities.
With anger now fueling her, Xiao-Mei inhaled sharply, âGnirb em ot taht dratsab.â
I am only resolved to act in that manner, which will, in my own opinion, constitute my happiness, without reference to you, or to any person so wholly unconnected with me.

Ian always had the problem of feeling like the whole world knew about his existence, after all, his ego was pretty big and that always brought him so trouble. âYou should know about me, if not⌠you better learn or read a book. I have written a few alreadyâ
"I know of you, but that's all I care to indulge," The psychologist's upper lip flexed as a show of disgust drew itself across her face. This was what government and private entities willingly signed up for: A man with a coffee addiction who housed an ego so large that it could smother the unsuspecting? It seemed unlikely that a person so high on himself could be a competent mental health professionalâthough a leading expert in a facet of it seemed plausible, "Something tells me a book wouldn't do justice in painting the entire picture anyway."

{ âhe waits for the shall we begin?â }
It never failed to amuse her: The constant presence of feigned courtesy when meeting someone interviewing to take the next step in their life. A necessary evil, sure, but it seemed useless as time went on and the interview process proceeded. Eventually, the ârealâ person was going to rear their head (be it ugly or not) and all the false pleasantries and attempt to appeal to potential employers would become moot. Of course, this did not make a person any less qualified for a position or any less eligible, but it was far more taxing for the interviewer to wade through the proverbial cesspool that was falsified excitement, a forced lack of fear or anxiety, and/or poorly concealed boredom. And, unfortunately for the raven-haired psychologist, all three types had waltzed in and out of Im-Hanâs doors in less than eight hours.
So, all this one had to do was seem genuine (or be good enough to fake it) and heâd already have her subconscious favor.
âPleasure to finally place a physical presence to the resume and other materials,â Xiao-Meiâs hand fell from the otherâs brief grip and back to her side. Though her eyes remained trained on the young manâs face and, more importantly, on his expression, the psychologist couldnât help but attempt to sense something from him. No parlor tricks or magic needed, just the intuition and awareness sheâd been training since her postsecondary schooling began. It was the same thing done when assessing clients or addressing persons outside of the office, but to an extent that wouldnât, perhaps, seem as scrutinizing; Xiao-Mei had some feigning of her own to do in order to keep from scaring off applicants with her typical stoic, introverted, and unwavering demeanor.
âIf youâll follow me, we can take care of this preliminary in-person bit so you can get on with your day,â Not waiting for affirmation from the other party, the psychologist turned on her heels and strode past the receptionistâs desk, leaving the waiting area behind and continuing into the hallway. Assuming Mr. Kim would pick up and follow her, she could even point out a few common rooms on the way to a small conference room. It only seemed reasonable in the event that he ended up working there, because the first day of the prospective internship would not allow for time to get adjusted to the physical office environment, âOnce we get through this hall, youâll be able to see the bulk of the office, but the only thing of merit youâll see here is the bathroom and an additional window for the reception.â

[ So, as an added bonus to Xiao-Meiâs magical existence, Iâve managed to fabricate a connection to Changâe ( and Selene due to the Grecian roots of her magic ). This would be something for her to further explore as it is meant more for the sake of character discovery than anything else; however, as a head canon of sorts, this would mean that Xiao-Meiâs magic âenergyâ can be amplified by a strong lunar presence. So, potentially expect a bit more umph to her abilities when at night ( especially if in China or Greece ). ]
