✷┆ 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐲 ᝰ.ᐟ ━━━ or, in which, you go to a party to try to forget your ex, but then he shows up and all progress is lost
esta es una mala idea, you thought to yourself as you stood outside the building that vibrated with chaotic life and buzzed with booming music. lights of all colors flashed through the windows, showing you the silhouettes of the various people inside which only made your anxiety flutter in your chest.
your friend noticed immediately; the way your shoulders tensed and the way you began to play with your necklace, habits of yours she's picked up on from the long time she has known you.
"oye, qué te pasa?" she asked, bumping her shoulder with yours, "como si fuera tu primera party."
you turned your head to look at her, "tú sabes que no es eso."
she sighed, running a hand through her curls, "si estás hablando de ese ex tuyo, te voy a pegar."
caught, you looked away with your face heating up, "es que..."
"es que nada," she interrupted, causing you to look at her suddenly, "ahora estás soltera y necesitas disfrutarlo. ese tipo probablemente ya te haya superado, y tú tienes que hacer lo mismo."
you ignored the ache in your heart at the sound of her words. it had been a couple of weeks since you broke up, and while you were still holding on to hope that he would call you and beg you to come back, he never did. and as much as it pained you, it made you realize that your relationship was over... whether you liked it or not.
so, it was time to move on. and what better place to do that then at a house party?
"y tú crees que puedo hacer eso aquí? con hombres que no conozco?"
"claro!" she responded with a big smile, "lo hago todo el tiempo. te enseño, ven."
grabbing hold of your wrist with her perfectly manicured hand, she tugged you up the stairs and to the door. you swallowed down your nerves when the two of you were finally inside.
you noticed immediately how cramped the house was and how it shouldn't hold this many people at its size. and yet, the party continued on with no plan on stopping any time soon.
your friend weaved through the crowd with rehearsed ease, which made you better understand what she had said earlier.
still, you did your best in keeping up with her. avoiding the sweaty bodies that grinded against each other, dodging the cups of alcohol being carelessly passed around, and slipping past the touches of unwanted hands, the two of you found yourself in the kitchen.
"haces esto todo el tiempo?" you asked breathlessly, "y te gusta?"
she gave you a toothy grin as she shrugged, "pues, necesito hacer algo para pasar el tiempo."
"estás loca," you say shaking your head with a smile before leaning your back against the counter. "ahora qué?"
"tomamos primero," she stated, heading straight to the fridge. she rummaged through the different drinks that where stored inside before taking out two bottles. one you recognized as lemonade, the other made you frown.
"me quieres poner borracha o qué?"
she poured the drinks into two red solo cups, handing you one and taking the other, "quieres olvidar a tu ex?"
you huffed before taking the cup and downing it in one go. the lemonade was pleasant on your tongue since it sweetened the drink for just a second before you tasted the sharp bitterness of the alcohol. you closed your eyes when your throat began to burn and your lips began to tingle.
when it passed, your face contorted into disgust. your friend laughed.
"no te dije que tenías tomarlo todo en una vez," she said, rubbing your back with a chuckle, "pero, ni modo, ya estás lista para divertirte."
"mande?" you asked, looking at her wide eyed. "como qué—"
she ignored you, and instead, began to look at the crowd with focused precision. "cuál es tu type?"
"qué—!" you choked out, your face feeling hot, "qué estás—"
"te gustan los con pelo oscuro? o que sean rubio?"
she turned around to give you a look, then she squinted her eyes as if she was studying you, "no, no te gustan los con pelo oscuro."
you furrowed your brows at her, "cómo que no? brian—"
quickly, she slapped a hand over your mouth before you could say any more, "shhh! no puedes decir su nombre o lo convocarás!"
you narrowed your eyes at her before pealing her hand off your mouth, "como si fuera un fantasma."
"uno nunca sabe," she shrugged, "así que... los rubios?"
you were about to respond when you heard someone shout your friend's name. the two of you turned in the direction and there you saw a man who looked exactly like your friend's type. he winked at her direction before tilting his head to beckon her to come over.
when he turned away, you caught your friend's eye and her face became colored in embarrassment.
"qué?" she asked defensively.
"nada," you shook your head, trying to hide your smirk.
she bumped your shoulder, "ya... no es nada."
you shrugged, "si tú lo dices."
there was a beat of silence between the two of you before she cracked.
"ok, pero no es nada serio. lo prometo."
you raised your hands up in mock surrender, "oye, no me necesitas prometer nada. si es nada serio, no es nada serio. y si es tu novio—"
"si tú lo dices," you repeated, "novio o no, te está esperando."
she rubbed her arm anxiously, "y tú? no quiero dejarte sola."
you waved your hand at her, "no te preocupes. como dijiste, no es mi primera party.”
she grinned, “ok, pero si necesitas algo o quieres irte, me llamas.”
you gave her a nod and with that, she left the kitchen and disappeared into the crowd.
now alone, you refilled your cup with something not as strong. sure, maybe you deserved to get blacked-out drunk, or even hook up with a hot stranger, but you couldn’t help but feel like it was too early. like the wound was still fresh, like if there was still a chance to sort things out—
you shook your head. it’s been weeks and he hasn’t texted you, let alone contacted you. besides, you were the one who decided to break up and you had to stick with the choice you made.
but if you really did, then why did it hurt so bad? and why, did you so badly regret it?
you took out your phone and almost went to text him when a guy appeared in the kitchen.
you glanced back at the crowd to see if it was your friend’s doing, only to see that she was busy with her not-boyfriend.
you stifled a laugh at the sight of them but then your attention was brought back to the guy when he began to talk.
“digo, qué chido fiesta, no?” he repeated, mixing different drinks in his cup.
you nodded politely before turning back to look at the crowd.
“no, estoy con mi amiga. y tú?”
“están afuera jugando el beer pong,” he said, gesturing to the door that led to the back yard. there, you saw a bunch of guys surrounding a table and cheering each other on as cups began to be drunk.
“y no quisiste jugar?” you asked, now staring at him.
he shrugged, leaning against the counter opposite of you, “no me quiero poner borracho. tengo trabajo en la mañana. tú?”
“quería, pero ya no tengo las ganas,” you say, setting down your cup.
he hummed and when he finished his cup he took a good look at you, “y tu novio?”
your eyes widened, “mi que?”
he blinked, and then, sheepishly, “oh… es que pensé que tenías un novio porque eres tan bella.”
you let out a quiet laugh despite the way your heart felt, “ya no. hace dos semanas que terminamos.”
he nodded before giving you a look of faux pity, “qué lastima. eres muy hermosa, sabes? si fueras mi novia nunca te dejaría.”
you smiled awkwardly at him, “aveces las cosas no salen como uno quiere.”
“tienes razón,” he stated, throwing away his cup, “pero, no queremos hablar de esas cosas. estamos en una party! mira, ellos van—”
you didn’t catch the rest of his words because when you turned around to see what he was talking about, the one guy you didn’t want to see stood at the other end of the room.
you blinked, thinking that maybe it was the alcohol in your system that made you hallucinate him being here. but after a couple of attempts of fixing your line of sight, it was true. brian gutiérrez was at the same party as you.
turning away before he could see you, you felt your heart beat rapidly in your chest. the blond didn’t seem to notice your behavior as he continued talking about something you didn’t bother to pay attention to.
when you got your act together, you risked a look over your shoulder and found him already staring at you.
frozen like a deer in headlights, you didn’t even notice when the blond moved closer to you, and it wasn’t until you felt his hand on your hip when you snapped out of your trance.
you turned around and fixed your posture when you saw just exactly how close to you he was. his chest was almost touching yours and he was so close to you that you could smell the beer tainting his breath.
you pulled your face away from his as he leaned down to look at you.
“oye, pero… qué estás haciendo?”
he let out an airy laugh, before bringing his other hand up to your caress face, “quiero besarte. puedo?”
the sudden confession shocked you that you almost considered it. it wasn’t like he was a bad looking guy, it was, in fact, the opposite. he was tall, had a nice toned body (from what you could see), and a cute smile. even his eyes were a pretty shade of blue, which kind of reminded you of—
the door of the fridge shut so loudly that the bottles inside shook and clinked against each other. the sudden noise made the two of you break apart and turn to see what had happened. your eyes narrowed when you saw the culprit.
“en serio?” you say annoyed, a frown making its way to your face as you crossed your arms over your chest.
brian turned around with an innocent look on his face, before glancing at the fridge and then back at the two of you, “oh. perdón. es que la puerta no quería cerrar.”
“está bien, amigo,” the blond said with tight lipped smile, obviously frustrated by the interruption.
brian raised his cup at him before taking a sip. you scoffed at him which got his attention.
“buenas,” he said to you, not even feeling a bit of shame.
“qué haces aquí?” you ask irritably.
he didn’t look surprised by your hostility, so he replied calmly, “qué? no puedo ir a fiestas?”
you rolled your eyes, before sarcastically replying, “oh, puedes ir a cualquier fiesta, no me importa. solo que no pensé que pudieras, ya que siempre estás ‘ocupado.’”
before he had a chance to talk the blond spoke, “espera, espera. él es tu novio?”
brian and you shared a look.
you glared at him. he smiled back at you unashamedly.
the blond looked between you both with a dumbfounded expression before shaking his head. he turned to you, “pensé que estabas soltera?”
“sí soy! él no es mi novio. te lo prometo!” you pleaded.
the blond was still unconvinced, “mira. eres muy linda, pero no quiero meterme en esto.”
he had already went into the crowd which caused your words to die on your tongue.
you swirled your head around to glare at brian, who seemed to be enjoying his drink without a care. only when he realized that you were looking at him did he lock eyes with you.
“mi problema? no tengo ninguno,” he responded, almost offended that you even asked.
“le dijiste que eras mi novio,” you say, annoyance lacing your tone, “no recuerdas que ya terminamos?”
he sighed like if your words had hurt him, “claro que me recuerdo. fue el peor día de mi vida.”
the sincerity of his voice made you want to believe him, but you couldn’t help but think about how he didn’t even try to stop you from breaking up with him. how he allowed you to say those words without a fight, and how he didn’t even chase after you when you finally left.
“si estás diciendo la verdad… por qué no hiciste nada?” you asked, your voice gentler than you wanted it to be. “por qué no me paraste?”
then, he finally admitted, “porque pensé que era mejor así.”
you felt your heart break from his words. they were genuine, you could tell, which made them hurt even more.
“mejor? no creíste en nosotros?”
“no! no fue eso,” he said, hesitantly taking a step closer to you and continuing to when he noticed that you didn’t back away. “te amé más que la vida misma. más que el aire que respiro y más que nada en este planeta. pero no te estaba haciendo feliz. siempre estaba viajando y cuando estaba cerca siempre estaba ocupado. nunca estuve allí cuando me necesitabas y pensé que era cruel seguir hacéndote eso, especialmente cuando—”
you closed the gap in between the two of you by gripping the front of his shirt and pulling him into a kiss. you felt him tense for a moment before his hands cupped your face and he held you like he used to. you sighed into the kiss when he deepened it and began to kiss you like he needed it to survive.
his hands then slipped down to your waist, pulling you closer and pressing your body flush against his. you were sure at this point he could feel the cartwheels your heart was doing as he continued to kiss you with vigor. you threw your arms over his shoulders and played with the hair at the back of his head, tugging on it to elicit sounds from him. this only made him press you against the counter, his hands tightening their grip on your waist and pressing further onto you.
the two of you only broke away for air, but even that didn’t stop him from returning to your mouth after a second apart.
this kiss was noticeably sweeter and not as hungrier as the first one. he kissed you slowly, savoring the sweet taste of your lips and the basking in the feelings you give him. you kissed him back with the same sentiment, trying to communicate what you struggled to put into words.
“lo siento,” you heard him same when the kiss ended, “nunca quería lastimarte.”
you kissed him briefly, placing one of your hands on his cheek. he continued.
“tú mereces algo mejor que yo,” he stated, closing his eyes.
you kissed him again, gently, tenderly, before shaking your head, “solo tú tienes mi corazón, y no quiero que nadie más lo tenga.”
his eyes opened to look at you, and when you stared right into them, it reminded you of the first time you met him, and how easily you fell in love with him.
“te amo,” he mumbled as he leaned his cheek against the palm of your hand, “nunca paré.”
you smiled, face warm and heart fuller than what it had been for the past two weeks.
“si me das otra chansa, estaré mejor. lo haré mejor. te lo prometo.”
you kissed him again, and with that, he got his answer.
