Idk what it is about Will. He seems to stir up some of the most insane emotions in people. I think traditional hockey bros are always tough on him bc they want Mack to have the PERFECT winger and tend to overanalyze every move from will bc of it (which is crazy considering Mack himself wants Will on his wing, and RPF aside, he clearly takes hockey seriously and wouldn't want Will as his winger unless he thought they were a great match). People also rag on Will's size which makes me 🤨 bc honestly in terms of both height and weight he's similar to plenty of other hockey players in his age range.
As for people on this site/twt, I know some fans have always had that "poke fun of your faves to keep them humble," but i never understood it. Not to mention, I think a lot of the times a cover for either genuine dislike or fans not wanting to come across as pick me's or something similar. Which is silly. Fans should be able to praise/gush over players without people accusing them of trying to get with said player. It's to the point where anytime something non-hockey related comes out, people are rolling in with the "anything but practicing/hitting the gym comments" which is crazy considering we've gotten SEVERAL pics and vids of him training this off season already.
It's also just such a shame bc in a league where toxic masculinity runs rampant and shitty guys get uplifted so often, Will is SUCH a breath of fresh air with the way he embraces his softer hobbies and seems to be beloved by those around him for being a good friend/person. Not saying he's a faultless saint. But he sure ain't the evil blonde man sent to corrupt Mack like people like to joke about.

It really is shameful, he is perfectly fine the way he is and developing great for his age/where he is at in his professional career. Mack loves him wants him on his wing. Period. That chatter should’ve stopped ages ago.
Simply being a fan and being proud of someone’s accomplishments shouldn’t automatically translate to trying to make something sexual transpire with the player. It is simply admiration for someone who works hard at what they do and no one should be afraid of coming off as “pick me” for it. If me supporting a player and his work ethic is pick me so be it, I’ll be that everyday for all I care because if your gonna continue to have a immature mindset when it comes to it then why should I care?
Also, worrying about him hitting the gym is not our concern as fans, real hard workers move in silence and Will Smith can be one of them whenever he want to be, just because he is not posting about it everyday and instead posting what he is getting up to besides hockey during the offseason doesn’t mean he isn’t actively working to better himself on the ice. He does not have to shove his training on the ice in our face everyday is my point.
Oh you’re so right, Will is such a breath of fresh air. Hockey is so toxic, and he is really innovating a softer side to it everyday. I appreciate him so much for that. I hope we get some young talents saying they looked up to him when it’s all said and done. He really is changing the landscape of the norm for hockey culture everyday, whether people acknowledge it or not.
And as far as Smitty being there to corrupt Mack, have you ever seen signs of such from him? Because I sure as shit haven’t, and trust me you know a snake when you see one.
Don’t ever apologize about sending an ask about how incredible Will is, we need more genuine fans who don’t fall in line with the fake ones who genuinely have a evil spirit when it comes to being a fan of his and criticizing him while actively hiding behind jokes and not wanting to be seen as a “pick me” who just wants to sleep with him for acknowledging how hard he works to show the public his personality, and that he stands out from the others.
