Our friend Dane (transgender, hispanic, gay) is hoping to move from his small, bigoted hometown in Michigan to join us in Washington state. They are currently living under an extremely controlling parent, and recently had a roommate join the household who has been molesting them, sexually harassing them, and even breaking into their room to climb into bed with them at night. Dane has been struggling with finding a way out for months now, and we have offered him our second bedroom in our 2bdrm/1b apartment. (On top of Dane’s struggle, we are also two disabled trans men who work from home and rely on the state’s assistance to make it month-to-month; Dane living with us will take a significant strain off of our massive financial burdens and allow us to eventually save up enough to move into a house of our own.) Dane has been unable to find work in his hometown due to racial discrimination. Each place that he has applied has simply tossed his application away, and so he’s also coming to Washington in search of work on top of safety and community. He relies solely on his art-sales to carry him over from month to month, and if you don’t feel like donating directly, you can actually purchase the works that he has available from his Storenvy (click thru link)! Currently our goal is $600, but the full cost of his traveling and moving expenses have not been totaled but are adding up. From a rough calculation, we can determine that with traveling costs, shipping costs for his belongings, and first month’s rent alone, the funds required will be about $953. Please help us get this amazing Trans man to a place where he can feel free to be himself, feel safe in his own household, and be capable of living a fulfilling and independent life outside the reach of a racist hometown and an abusive parent.
