Despicable In-Law
Beneath the roof where smiles should gleam,
An icy silence starts to scheme.
You speak, but words fall on deaf ears,
And laughter hides the rising tears.
An in-law’s scorn, a cruel remark,
A quiet wound that leaves its mark.
They twist the knife with every glance,
While others dance in shallow trance.
I stand alone in rooms of light,
But in my heart, it’s endless night.
I reach for help, but none can see,
The weight of this hypocrisy.
The air is thick with unspoken lies,
While distant eyes avoid my cries.
They smile, they nod, they go their way,
While I am drowning in dismay.
Each word they say, each jab they throw,
Turns seeds of doubt into a glow.
But no one hears, no one knows,
That pain beneath the surface grows.
I wear my mask, I play the part,
But something breaks inside my heart.
And still, they turn their heads away,
Ignoring shadows where I stay.
So here I stand, though bent and bruised,
An echo lost, abused, and used.
In silence, I continue to fall,
A hollow voice against it all.
