Rush noticed her sudden movements away from him after he ran his fingers through his hair. Of course, he did not correlate them with the correct cause, thinking instead that he had gone too far and crossed some kind of friendship boundary. Given his crush as well, this shot panic through him. He was bale to remain mostly calm exteriorly, but the tension in his body returned quickly and he took the chance to stand up. “I’ll go see what’s down there.” he spoke quickly, trying not to let on how nervous he was now. 

He took a little longer than necessary in the kitchen, talking himself off a ledge as he prepared his snack. When he came back he was calmer, though intent on keeping his distance. As he walked in the room he held two halves of avocado in his hands, both with spoons in them, holding one out to her as he approached the bed. “Who cares what other food you have when you have these?” he smirked, taking a bite of his own once his hand was freed, then speaking with his mouth full “The grocery stores have been nuts lately, it’s a whole event just to try to find what you want. They’re at least starting to settle down and be able to restock now, thankfully. You know me, I can’t handle that many people in one place on a normal occasion, much less when everyone is frantic and upset and easily pissed off.”

How on Earth was Wylie supposed to explain to her best friend that his simple action of running his fingers through her hair had sent such a jolting response through her veins? Not easily, that was for damn sure. The blonde’s cheeks were in a seemingly permanent state of red now, her skin so hot to the touch that it could be mistaken for a fever. But as Rush stood up, she felt rather guilty for having jolted away from him, knowing full well that she possibly ruined any moment that they were having, and she didn’t know how to feel about that.

In Rush’s absence, Wylie finally changed out of her robe into one of her more comfortable dresses. She was just getting done buttoning up the top button when he came back in, a bright smile appearing on her face as she reached to take her half of the avocado. “People give these such a bad rap,” she muttered, taking a spoonful into her mouth before she sat back on her bed. “They’re literally the perfect snack, y’know?” Wylie sighed, her eyes finding Rush’s face once more as she reached out to brush her knuckles across his cheek. “I’m sorry the grocery store regulars are being a nightmare.”
