Arriving in Brooklyn this winter is Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can be Deceiving—the largest U.S. exhibition devoted to the acclaimed Mexican artist in a decade and the first in the country to present Kahlo’s personal objects from her lifelong home in Mexico City. It offers a rare opportunity to explore Kahlo’s creative vision and self-crafted identity through a display of paintings and drawings by the artist, her clothing and other personal items, photographs, film, and documentation, as well as related objects from our collection. Experience it only from February 8 to May 12.
Members enjoy a one-week presale starting November 26, before general tickets go live to the public. Thinking of becoming a Member? Join by November 21 at 1 pm to reserve your presale tickets.

“The true artist helps the world by revealing mystic truths.” For more than 50 years, Bruce Nauman has interrogated structures of power, questioned accepted values such as “good” and “bad,” and left his work open to multiple, often conflicting understandings. Don’t miss this singular opportunity to experience his tremendous body of work, presented across both MoMA and MoMA PS1. “Bruce Nauman: Disappearing Acts” is now on view. mo.ma/brucenauman … [Details: Bruce Nauman. “The True Artist Helps the World by Revealing Mystic Truths (Window or Wall Sign).” 1967. What does Charles White sound like?
For WQXR host Terrance McKnight, it’s a medley ranging from soul and blues singers—and Charles White subjects—like Bessie Smith and Mahalia Jackson, to the concert hall music of George Walker and Handel. Working with Museum curator Esther Adler, McKnight developed a playlist for our Charles White exhibition, pairing songs, poetry, and political speeches with the artworks on view. “I wanted people to take three to five minutes to meditate on these images…to walk away with more empathy and more appreciation of the beauty of what [White] did and what was important for him,” said McKnight. Listen to the exhibition playlist and learn more about McKnight ‘s exploration of the relationship between visual art and music: mo.ma/charleswhitesound … [Artwork: Charles White. “Bessie Smith.” 1950. “And this I believe: that the free, exploring mind of the individual human is the most valuable thing in the world. And this I would fight for: the freedom of the mind to take any direction it wishes, undirected. And this I must fight against: any idea, religion, or government which limits or destroys the individual.“ — John Steinbeck, East of Eden
Happy birthday to one of our favorite literary legends whose wisdom resonates with us daily, John Steinbeck!
