The letter reads as follows:
"Hey there.
I should be honest right out of the gate...I don't know exactly who you are. But sometimes you get a text at 3 AM from a pseudo-god to send a letter to someone who feels familiar and all you can really do is comply. So, I'm sending this to you.
I was instructed to say that I'm doing fine. Which, I guess is the truth. Considering I don't know what I'd be otherwise.
I was also told to say that...I'm not as you knew me. But that doesn't really change whatever happened in the past.
...I don't know what else to say if I'm honest.
I guess all I really can say is, I hope you're doing well. And if we ever have the chance to meet however different our worlds are, I hope we do. You sound interesting enough, and from what else I've heard, you've had a rough time.
That's all,
Diamond Fox"
Accompanying the letter is a simple photo, of Diamond. Indeed, not as Ouro knew them, there's no sign of their scars, they're not even in their usual fox form. They're smiling. Coal can be seen looming behind them, seemingly a bit perplexed by the action of taking a photo at all. It's signed in their messy handwriting, the same way the end of the letter was.
he holds the note so gently, rereading it over and over.
he can feel his hands shaking. his arms shaking. he can feel his breathing become uneven.
"... diamond, i.."
it was pointless, they'd never hear or see him again, and he'd never get to say goodbye. say he was sorry.
so he clutched the note and held it gently to his chest.
and he sobbed.
