I'm always going to see bands and I make friends with them and will travel pretty far to see them multiple times on one tour. I love doing that. It makes me happy to spend so much time around amazing people and get to meet the other bands on tour. It almost becomes like a family to me :) I never hookup with band guys and don't plan to. That's just not my style. (Cont)
(Cont) We just hang out, talk, drink, etc. but people seem to get the idea that Iβm throwing myself at them and sending a bad message to them and other people and creating a bad rep for myself. I donβt see why this is and itβs very upsetting when people see it this way. Why canβt people get that girls can hang out with band guys and be on their bus and buy them drinks and do all this stuff with them without it meaning theyβre hooking up. They can just be friends

Hi
I totally get that. Even if you do sleep with people, whoβs business is it but yours? I think that if people learnt more about what it is to be a groupie, or any woman around music, they would spend less time name calling. It truly is ignorance. Or jealousy - either is not cool. Surround yourself with positive people, thatβs all you can do.
I find it ad that people think groupies are only around because bands just want sex. Weβre not beingΒ βusedβ like they seem to think. Iβve never had to buy my way into someoneβs friendship (a so called friend of mine once asked if I had to give blowjobs to hang out with my musical friends - wtf?). We buy people drinks sometimes, so what? Itβs a very small gesture of thanks for the great music we get to hear and experience. but they donβt get that - or they dontβ even want to learn. So frustrating!
In the end, just keep doing what youβre doing! Remember thereβs people out there that donβt judge you (including a tonne of groupies online that youβve never met).
Rachel xx
