      the leonin looks to nevi, expression somewhat unreadable. perhaps the other could read his current state by the way he held himself — perhaps nevi just knew him well enough. in truth, it didn’t really matter. taavi exhales, reaching up to scratch idly at his neck. it’s very obvious that he’s gathering his thoughts before offering anything in response. after a few, long seconds, he finally breaks that uncertain silence. 

      ❝ it’s not that easy, ❞ he huffs. brows gather together slightly, making that internal struggle all the more obvious. it was no secret that taavi often considered himself responsible whenever a member of their party was caught in melee, regardless of offered words of comfort. that protective instinct was so thoroughly engrained in him that he didn’t know who he’d be without it. 

      ❝ but — i’ll try. ❞

Nevi sits heavily beside Taavi, “Nothing....good... ever is... easy.” The soft, slow monotone of the tortle’s voice as a heavy hand land’s on his captain’s shoulder. Nevi and Eric had both been through war and understood the desire for protecting others. “Besides,” Nevi shrugs, slow and calm, “What...is death...if not a...way to...appreciate... your... life?”

He hums, falling into a soft silence beside his captain. He had said his peace. Nevi was not one of frivlous words -- it wasn’t typical of tortles to be verbose and overly talkative. Merely to say their piece and listen. After a long silence, he speaks up once more, “War is...hard,” The voice slow and thoughtful as he speaks, “And losing... those you... protect and feel... responsible for is... not easy. But...if it was...easy...if you could...not care...for those... you protect...that...I think...is worse.”
