YO, NEXT THURSDAY, JUNE 6, 6-9PM. COME ON OUT 🌈 “Girl, It Was Camp” Angel City Brewery in association with Art Share L.A. Curated by @dakotanoot “Girl, It Was Camp” explores the notion of camp through a selection of younger, queer artists. Each artist embraces and challenges traditional camp aesthetics through a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, photography, and sculpture. The show pays homage to LGBT history while expanding its connection and relevance to a current generation. Referencing RuPaul’s Drag Race, “Girl, It Was Camp,” navigates identity through social media and the internet. The quote originates from drag queen Mimi Imfurst’s defense of her outfit to Shangela in Season 3’s Untucked. Like the artists in the show, Mimi uses the color, comedy, and craft of camp to not only justify her outfit, but differentiate herself from other queens. Camp is still a powerful device for younger artists. #laart #laartist #queerartist #pride #paintings #emergingartist #artistsoninstagram #paintersofinstagram #figurativeart (at Angel City Brewery) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByCKrVwl7CN/?igshid=11fbu0zckjf01
