I’m too nice. Not fit to be a jock. The only thing keeping me in the group is my records in the water and my style provided by Isabelle.” Stephanie rolled her eyes, “No. Hes cute but I don’t like him. I don’t see him and think ‘I’d like to go on a date with that one.’”

“That charm leaks from my pores. Keep up, Steph.” Patrick teased, nudging her playfully. “As a former jock, I can attest to that. Sometimes teammates have each other’s backs, but it all depends. Populars are worse though... any signs of weakness and they’ll aim for it.” Patrick admitted. “I agree with that. Not that you’re not fit to be one, just that you’re too nice for your own good. Someone’s gonna take advantage of it more than I have.” Not that Patrick ever thought he actually took advantage of her. If he did, he’d feel bad. “Oh, one of those kinds of things. Good to know. Do you see anyone like that right now?”

As long as she wasn’t a burnout or a Charlie, it was basically fine, right? “Probably, yeah. That’s why I’m avoiding it. Plus, it’d take me at least a month just to get caught up.”

Patrick nodded several times. “Indeed I was. How did you know?” He laughed though as she scolded herself. “You’re just getting used to me again. You have to be mean around me, it’s how it works.” At the mention of Elliot though, his smirk widened and a brow raised. “Good to know.”

“The charm literally oozes from your pours. How do you do that? Stop looking at me like that! I swear I can’t say anything when you look at me like that.” Stephanie shifted in her seat, feeling his gaze melt through all her defenses. All she wanted was to be special to someone, anyone, first choice, but Patrick wasn’t the boy. He was like Alec, wasn’t he? “What? What’s that smirk for? Oh god is this going to get to the Burn Book? Patrick asked, letting out a heavy sigh when she mentioned his secret. He leaned forward and looked right into her eyes, trying not to crack a smile. "You like Elliot from the track team."

Patrick laughed at the girl’s rambling as she tried to recover and he just nudged her foot gently with his, giving her a smile. “Breathe, Steph. I get that you’re not used to it, with your head underwater all the time, but when you’re on ground it’s kind of a necessity.”

Stephanie sighed, although a smile spread across her lips. Stupid Patrick making her feel so out of place and yet so… ugh.
