Welcome to Essex County, Massachusetts, circa the early 1970s, where the cold winds bend the trees and strange eyes gaze out from the dark woods outside Arkham. You’ve just begun your tenure as a student at the prestigious but infamously unlucky Miskatonic University, a school known just as much for haunting tragedy as academic rigor. Things seem different here than they did in the main timeline…better in many ways, worse in others. How? You’ll have to explore. But be careful to not wander too closely to the shadowy woods or the coasts of Innsmouth.

Welcome to World of Eldritch County, a 16+ text-based, literate horror rp, based on the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft and his enduring legacy on genre fiction. At World of Eldritch County, we live for the quirky, weird, oddball, and terrifying in fiction. Do you love horror beyond just Lovecraft?

We have three class of characters on the creation screen:

➳ Townie: You were born in Arkham, and can feel its strange cosmic energy coursing through you. Where else would you go to school but Miskatonic?

➳ Prodigal: You left Arkham once, thinking you escaped your birthplace. But it called you back. It calls all of you back.

➳ Outsider: Whether through intellectual curiosity or unlucky stroke of fate, you were brought to Arkham from the Outside world…. Well. Enjoy your stay.

We are an inclusive rp site, open to all character types and all users (of the correct age). Come join one of our four Miskatonic dormitories! Are you courageous and clever? Join Dunwich! Driven by intellectual curiosity above all else? Join Innsmouth! Ambitious and confident? You’re perfect for Carcosa. Compassionate and loyal? Severn is definitely the dorm for you! Interested in diving a bit further into the student life? Miskatonic has plenty of interactive classes that offer homework, which allows you to earn points for rewards. Bring prestige to your dormitory by winning the dorm cup or yourself by earning the student cup!

More interested in the rp aspect? Wonderful! We have multiple forum locations for you to roleplay your time at Miskatonic, Arkham, and the other surrounding areas to your heart's content. Speaking of heart, you might want to hold onto that around here….

We have all this and more, including buyable and usable shop items, interactive notice board articles and contests, an active site blog, and multiple in-game chat rooms for short form rp! You can even fight against (or join) one of the dark cults to the old gods around town!

A New Orleans transplant, the erudite and artistically genius Bertrand L’Angelle is nominally in Arkham to head up the Miksatonic art department and bring the town’s museum back up to snuff, but...there are rumors about one of the local occult figures having a wife who’s maiden name was L’Angelle. The man seems to have no love for the darker side of Arkham. And Bertrand does seem awfully touchy about the mention of children and grandchildren....

Perhaps best to mind your own business though, if you don’t want to see your grades drop.

Named after an old New England town and founded by John Conrad and John Kirowan of the Wanderer’s Club, the Dunwich dorm is one that values boldness, bravery, curiosity, skepticism, foolheartedly courage and adventurous-type exploration. Dunwich is known for having a somewhat dual-nature due to its two founders, but all people in Dunwich are united by a spirit of bravery, adventure and a dedication to the truth. Students in Dunwich can also have the negative aspects of self-righteousness, endangering self and others, clinging to false truths if overwhelmed by biases, and falling victim to one’s own egoism. The emblem of Dunwich is a snake wrapped around an apple emblazoned by the patron of Dunwich: the Leviathan.

The most notable Dunwich student in the Eldritch County canon was Randolph Carter.

Welcome to Year 15!

Innsmouth, founded by Obed Marsh who founded a town of the same name, is a dorm that values intelligence, cleverness, problem-solving, and knowledge. They share the curiosity attribute with Dunwich dorm, although not bound by the same oft-righteous beliefs of a Dunwich student. However, Innsmouth students will often pursue knowledge ruthlessly, leading to them falling victim to madness, losing ethical and moral compass, and/or having a nature that deals with human nature and emotions on an analytical basis. The emblem of Innsmouth is a giant squid, representing Dagon, the dorm’s patron.

The most famous Innsmouth student within the Eldritch County canon is Dr. Herbert West.

It’s almost like some people even have colors out of space!

Arkham, Massachusetts is a town with a rich history and tragic past. Plagued by fires, animal attacks, and even once a strange meteorite falling outside of the town, it seems the small New England city can’t catch a break. However, that doesn’t take away from Arkham’s unique charm.

It’s almost like something is...calling you to it from beyond the shadows of your mind.

Miskatonic University was founded in the mid 1800s and quickly became one of the most prestigious universities in the northeast. Despite this prestige and the academic rigor associated with it, it has been beset many times by tragedy and strange happenings.

Putting the “dark” truly into “dark academia”, Miskatonic is the perfect place for the student of horror, the occult, and the arcane. At Miskatonic on World of Eldritch County, you can take over a dozen interactive classes, roleplay in our forums, be a part of one of our four dormitory clubs, and interact with other students and Arkhamites in our interactive character chats!
