Robby doesn't care about himself. although he's been very shit at showing it this shift, he does care about others. these are his people. this is his department. this hospital contains the "best things he's ever done."

and it didn't take that fucking much. he didn't have to torture it out of Robby. he was just firm and kind. not beating around the bush like jack has done and not harsh like dana and not vague like cassie.

saying I see what you're doing. I know what you're thinking. are you sure?

and that's all it took to get a little more out of Robby. a moment of actual genuine vulnerability. a verbal admittance of how bad it's starting to get. how much he needs this hospital but how much it's killing him.

it’s obviously lost on too many of you that not only is this a television show but he doesn’t hold the reigns for every casting decision and script. the purpose of his behavior is to show the evident self destruction of suicidal ideation by self burnout and how that reflects in interactions with the ppl around him. sorry that it doesn’t benefit your ship or your favorite fictional character but if the messaging is that far gone to you and your initial response is to call him racist, misogynistic and to constantly shit on his character then clearly its not the show for you.

ppl are allowed to sympathize and explain the reasoning behind robby’s nuanced behavior. ppl are allowed to defend him without you making it an argument about his internalized sexism.

yes. robby is acting like an asshole. his behaviour is erratic. he's speaking to his residents/attendings (male and female) unprofessionally and cruelly. he's lashing out and speaking strangely enough to cause concern. he's not thinking correctly so he's making rash decisions and causing upheaval in an already fragile working system.

robby at the same time has also for the past 12 hours shown rising signs of unsteadiness, irritability, nuance, a lack of due diligence and care, favouritism in low ranking interns, and clear signs of suicidal ideation in the way he speaks and his manner. in the last two episodes he's been shown close to tears and breaking point 5 times.

this is a man who been thoroughly traumatised by the healthcare system and the pandemic and losing his mentor in such traumatic way whilst having no stable support around him with family and friends. he's the best example i've ever seen of mental deterioration on a scale like this. but all you'll see is people seeing that 'ugliness' and they'll react with contempt and a wish for him to 'kill himself' because it's easier to view a character self destructing on a unprecedented level as dead instead of understanding why he's acting the way he is. or 'well i suffer with mental health and i'd never react like that!' good for you. i honestly hope you never get to a situation where your brain turns you into what society would deem an 'unredeemable monster'.
