the prologue: i’m unsure if this a genuine recounting of collated events (ala true crime) or an extremely meta storytelling

so i finished reading wuthering heights

wanted so badly to do a-chapter-a-day thing but got distracted by Obligations (work) and Celebrations (Eid) and missed out like a week (or month) of reading.

anyways … Thoughts on the story as a whole

1. it is funny that the meme/song is about “I think I’m gonna die in this house” when Catherine dies in the Grange

2. I do actually like the toxic romance of Cathy and Hareton

3. I would really love to read/watch a retelling of WH based on Lil Cathy’s POV. like she grows up knowing (or not knowing) about her namesake and being isolated (physically and intellectually) from the Outside world and then stumbles upon H and is immediately introgued by the Mystery but ofc Nelly/her father has only bad things to say about H, when he was never Ever mentioned, and then the whole thing with Linton and Hareton is just an absolute clusterfuck of manipulation. Absolute horror in her perspective

H ghosted them

and the elder Lintons died

it just struck me that C must’ve been some sort of tomboy pre-Linton stay. and then she got a Makeover.

it is just so devastating reading how young H is treated, especially when we’ve already encountered the Aftermath in the first two chapters.

with every new chapter, it is just genuinely mind boggling that there are any screen adaptations that have H be fair skinned (he is literally Othered by being seen as Dirty and Dark)

oh and nelly is really just trying (but maybe a case of unreliable narrator)

the new mrs earnshaw is…..interesting

so the lintons are edgar and isabella (along with the rents and servants)

ok so. mr linton refers to H as being possibly Lascar* (South Asian militiamen) or American/Spanish castaway. that makes more sense on why people really like dev patel as H.

*edit (from Wikipedia): Asian militiamen or seamen, from any area east of the Cape of Good Hope, including Indian, Malay, Chinese, and Japanese crewmen.

the Explanation of the Relations (the Lintons-Earnshaw-Heathcliff of it all) is tripping me a bit
