"Understood." The runes were swiped away, with her deciding to cross her arms as she walked after Alice. "You got any family? That and how long have you been at this and how did you meet your partner?" Some questions to pass the time for now.
"Why aren't you together right now and have you decided to split up in order to coer more ground to find the cultists and those books you want to destroy?"
That question would have Alice nearly miss a step, before she continued ahead regardless. "I... had... a sister, mom and dad. But I lost contact with them. My first death, before Fate made me immortal, ruined all that. As for Val? We met here in Dalamun, though it was mostly us thinking the other worked for him."
"And why we're not together? Well... last time we tried to kill Fate directly didn't end well at all. We didn't know about mana and its effects, so when he burnt up? He exploded at the last second. Last contact I had with her showed her all the way in Takun City on Elios. On the other side of Morai. So we decided to each take two continents. Me on the west side, her on the east."
"Oh I've died three times before, so I know what'chu mean. The dying part isn't the bad part, it's the wait and darkness that comes with it, until you enter the afterlife and have to go to the check-out station. The wait takes forever to complete, ugh." Ruby looked like she was talking from experience there. "Thankfully we got some artifacts back home that we can use once a year to just revive ourselves or people en masse, depending on what kinda threat of the month we're fighting."
"Five years, huh?" That seemed like one of her quick trips in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, so yes, to her it was rather short. "Still, being immortal means you can play the long game, right? Or do you think these Infernals can and will destroy the planet in given time, making it so that you'll end up in space, where it's cold, there's no oxygen and you eventually stop thinking?" Well that was a horrifying scenario.
"Got it, I can work with those definitions."
And all of that had her stop to stare at Ruby, the expression turning deadpan. Of... fucking course she had some revival bullshit powers or whatever. Why not? Why not be so broken and able to solve every fucking issue and not do a thing? Why not have artefacts that can revive massive amounts of people and abuse that shit like it's normal? Her emotions had to be forced back down as she nodded.
Then she mentioned the Infernals destroying the planet, and she paused at it. "I... I doubt they'll destroy it? As far as old records go about them, they once ruled the planet as divinities, but most people assume they're just taking names of said divinities to try and gain power from it. If they were to somehow avoid burning from mana, they'd try to take over and rule? Unless they're omnicidal, then we'll have that issue."
But she doubted they were actual gods. The only possible god she could tell was the psychotic woman right in front of her. And even that was a stretch.
"Hah, here I thought you'd jump at the chance of a stranger offering to do that part and not have you burdened with it, but seems like despite being immortal, you still have quite a lot of humanity left in you." Selene seemed pleased for some reason, before giving a nod, accepting that warning.
"Oh I see, so basically if you take out Fate, you may or may not have to deal with the other concepts like him? Are all of them assholes or ya reckon some would even help you erase him in exchange for some price or another?" A fair question as usual, but for now Selene relaxed a bit.
"So captain, what's the first step? Kill those cultists? I assume you located em so far or do I need to do some scrying spell to try and get a lead on them?" A little bit of a joke, before Selene's finger tip lightened up and she drew three runes in the air before her. "It's not the most accurate, but if you got any lead on them, just place it on there and it'll give us a hint to where they might be."
"Oh if you were anyone else and pissed me off, I absolutely would. But people I like? No, I'm not going to do something like that at all." She'd done it before, and she damn well would do it again if she had to. But she nodded before stopping a bit.
"So... I don't really know how other Infernals would react to us killing Fate, but I have to assume they'll be fine with it. I mean, they must hate him as much as we do, if not more. So it really depends." And a nod would come from Alice as she turned from Selene.
"Don't worry, I know where they are. I mean, I've been hunting them a damn long time, so they can't run from me if they tried. Follow me, Selene."
"How long have you guys been immortal and at this whole spiel? If it's been several centuries, then her family likely ain't around anymore, unless they too somehow are immortal?" From the way Valeria explained it, it didn't seem like there were many immortals on this planet to begin with. Maybe they were a long-lived species? She could find out later in a library, if such things existed here.
"So much for keeping a low profile." Ruby muttered to herself and gave a nod. "We can do that then. As promised, I won't do any of the fighting, but if it gets too dangerous and you could get lethally injured or close to dying, I will step in regardless of your wishes." A pause. "Unless you face Fate itself, then I will be watching from the sidelines." Preferably with a bucket of popcorn in hand.
"What'cha define as innocent life by the way? Anything that isn't one of those gang thugs? Just gotta know, so I don't accidentally blow up a puppy or two."
"Five years. We've been at it for five years now. Not very long in the whole scheme of things, but long enough that it's... A painful situation." Valeria shrugged a bit before she would gather her gear up, placing her sword on her back to prepare. Though she glanced over to Ruby again as she nodded.
She could handle being basically allowed to fight and die if she wanted. But stepping in only when she was on the verge of death basically...
"I can handle dying a few times, Ruby. It's not as painful as you think." She said, lying as easily as she breathed. But she nodded at that. "Anyone that isn't a gang member, Corpo, or cultist is 'innocent'. Until they start stabbing or shooting. Then it's all free game."

The Vacosian swallowed down the sarcastic quip she had regarding immortality and gave a slow nod as she was absorbing the information. It didn't help that it reminded her of Alice and the whole Fate...hound thing from way back, but no that was likely a coincidence. "I see, so this partner of yours and you have been trying to take down this Fate and get rid of your immortality? Or ya going to keep it as a fuck you?"
"I see." Now Ruby put on a thinking cap that she materialized out of thin air. "Hmm, how about I help you? I won't fight or do much more beyond keeping oy usafe, but killing this Fate guy? That's your job." And of course here came the caveat. "I also won't teleport or transport you directly to him, that'd defeat the purpose of this adventure."
"Effectively, yes. Though... I would like to keep it, my partner is more likely to just get rid of it and go back to her family... If they're still around, that is." Valeria noted, before seeing her wearing an actual thinking hat. This woman was going to be the death of her, she swore.
Still, Ruby offering to help by keeping her safe? And not killing Fate? Well, Ruby was actually offering some good help rather than pissing her off! Finally!
"That would be fine. I'm still planning to remain in Elios for a bit, take the Upper District and see if I can find any of Fate's little cult there, then move on. You get to blow shit up, I continue my own task, and we both kill whatever we want that isn't innocent lives. Win win all around."
"So what if he took over the hat? I can always just get a new one and really, what's he gonna do as a sentient hat? Is he gonna aggressively get on people's hats and make them wear him?" That was quite the strange sentence to speak, but Selene shrugged it off. "Valeria? I assume that's your partner. So killing the Cultists is a good idea, then you need to erase all the historical records and then send someone on a suicide mission to kill him."
"It's a well thought-out plan, but there's too many flaws to begin with. You are immortal and you will probably find all the records that mention fate in due time, but it might take centuries, if not millennia. Furthermore, everyone who knows of him, doesn't that include me now?" Unless she didn't count, because she wasn't from the planet to begin with? "I'll gladly help, really, but I think I'll offer myself to go through that gate at the end instead. I might reap some great benefits instead of truly dying."
"I don't know, maybe use the shit in your hat? I mean, the infinite space... I really don't know." She said, but nodded at the other. "Look, I get there's a lot of flaws in it, but I just... I've died enough times I'm sick and tired of it all, damn it! I want to be able to rest, relax, and enjoy my life! Yet I can't because these fuckers like Fate... Exist." She shook her head again.
"Look, if you're going to help, I'm glad, but I'd rather not have the woman who uh... helps us out go into the Gateway and never come back. I can name a thousand times that's happened and nobody has ever come back. Promise."
"Nobody died, so does it really matter? Besides it's a nice way of training for people to see how they react to such otherworldly threats." Not that it mattered much to Ruby, despite her appearance, she was still an alie and acted in a rather alien manner too.
"Oh where I come from that's pretty much the average skillset everyone or rather most are able to use. For some reason the people on here don't have any life-force in them, so no way for them to use it either." Still, she raised an eyebrow at that word. "Oh are we playing a guessing game? Who is him? Is it one of your enemies you're wary of, Valeria?"
Does it matter if nobody died? Maybe not to Ruby. But... She took a breath and nodded to herself. What else should she have expected. She had to stop thinking that Ruby would think like her or Alice. She was just her own kind of 'normal'.
"Your powers being average is still absurd. But him is... It's some asshole calling himself 'Fate'. A concept of some kind that thinks himself me and another's master. Gave me my immortality and acts like it's all special. It probably won't make sense for you, but it's... I've got a mission down here and in the Upper District to figure out, then I move onto Malos up north." If the cult was up north, really.
"Because it isn't. Life's unfair like that. I learnt that the hard way several times over." Selene gave a grimace, before shaking her head and hearing the other out. It seemed like people here used mana, much like herself, but also something called prana? "I don't quite know if this mana is the same magic energy resource that I use, but that makes it quite hard in killing an Infernal, does it not? Would it be wiser to summon them and seal them eternally into some object or is that not possible either?"
Selene might have been asking quite a few questions, but... "I want to know what I'm getting myself into. Unlike most people, I'm hard-to-kill, but not immortal. I rather know what you already tried and what doesn't work for when I fight and work alongside you, Alice."
"It might not be the same?" Alice ignored her statement that life was unfair, since she knew that by heart, and focused on the other's words after that. "And if you can do that, great. But I don't know if it'll work if you put it in that hat of yours. Would he get out or just take over your hat? I don't know..."
But she would look to Selene and frowned. "We've tried summoning Fate to reality and it just ended in me and my partner separated across Morai. I've done all I can to find any way into the Gateway south to find that asshole, but if I go in, I'll never get out. So we came up with a plan last I contacted Valeria. We remove Fate's name from anyone who knows of it. So killing his cultists is step one. Step two is erasing the old stories of Fate from any records on the planet. Step three is... Probably finding a way into the Gateway, kill him there, and then die there."
"I mean... before you showed up, that was the whole plan here. Kill, kill, and die."
"No I do not." Selenespoke, shaking her head and listening to Alice explain. "I see, immortality with quite the healing factor. Reminds me of a few people I know, though for them it's more or less just a natural part of their abilities." She did hear rumors of some Immortal Slayers being around, but they were far and little that she didn't think it was worthy of mention here.
"So Concepts or Gods like him are called Infernals and burn here fro some reason? Wouldn't it be a good idea to simply summon him in an open space where he couldn't hide and let him burn for all eternity?"
"Now how the fuck is that fair?! Me and Valeria have to get cursed with immortality and some people just get it for free? I'd call them lazy fuckers, but what the hell." Alice griped, mostly because while she'd love another power... immortality had its uses.
"As for why we can't? Simple. If you do manage to summon an Infernal to this realm, if they die? They just go back where they come from. Doesn't even fully kill them. We tried that exactly once, and he mocked us for it. There's a reason we're on different continents now. Trying to make this stupid world forget he exists but the two of us." The only plan they had. "And summoning isn't as easy as calling them up. I have magic, I can't summon an Infernal unless I want my mana and prana to literally cook me alive. And Val has none of either."

"Well I certainly didn't wanna sing, but I was dancing up there in the air." Ruby pouted and then crossed her arms about her chest. "No offense taken and damn do I really look like a villain that much these days? Haa, still I didn't really do much more than give them a hint that I exist." A pause. "That and I'm on the other end of the planet, so for 'em it'll be a wild goose chase, for me it'll be entertaining."
"Ehh? There's plenty mana out there in space though and so many other energy sources." Ruby tilted her head, wondering if the mana of this planet was more specialized or the likes. "For example I myself got some mana too and in terms of magic level, I'd be considered an Archmage, though I vastly prefer martial arts. Besides, if you ever wanna go to space, I can cast a spell on you that allows you to breathe in space."
"Kind of? I mean, you have the look of a rough and tough person willing to punch someone, so yeah." Valeria would murmur, before shaking her head. "Look, I get it will be entertaining for you, but how many people did you decide to panic just for having it?"
Just like him really. All for 'fun'.
"I'm sure there isn't. At least not around Morai. Mana is too dense to go up into the atmosphere like you have. And seriously, what do you not have up your sleeves, Ruby? You're able to fly, transform, use attacks able to blow up a planet if not more, and you have magic? A person on Morai is lucky to have a power or use magic, nobody gets a grab bag of bullshit. And I'd... I can't. Not if I want to risk him looking for me."
The team moved through the forest, not with all their might but with a collected swiftness as a pack, well conditioned. Ama was the first to sense that there was someone tailing them, and so had the information telephoned to the back of the formation for Ezekiel, who himself had only just picked up on.
There was a hope that they might be able to capture this person, question them for another location nearby and move in from there but as he slowed his pursuit into the woods, letting the rest move out and set up in a series of zig-zagged observable locations one-by-one, they all waited for Ezekiel to make his move.
The vanguard let himself slow to a much easier to track pace before darting left into a brush, and kicking off the trees close to the trunk in the dark to give this presumed scout the bait and switch, to end up behind them. He matched their pace in their shadow, timing each step behind theirs and slowing his breathing to an annoying crawl to keep his presence hidden until they'd traveled together within a few paces, right into the middle of the group's formation. With a swift step, he launched himself out to the would-be stalker's side, halting their forward step with his blade drawn out to his side and right in front of the young woman's throat.
"Well, well. What do we have here? A little birdy lost out here in the forest at night? Surely, it's about that time where all the good little cheeps should be resting in their aviaries. Did this one fly the coop because it we set fire to it's roost? "
"Start talking. I'm not above clipping a pretty bird's wings. Were you with the battalion sent to keep an eye on the storehouse, or did someone else send you?"
Rather than be upset or shout, the young woman froze as she had a blade at her throat and a man at her side. Every nerve was telling her to run, scream, do something but she couldn't. Fear locked her in place as he spoke, and she would slowly shake her head as he spoke.
Tears dripped as she realized that this may have been a big mistake to approach them like this. But they were saving the slaves! How could she not approach them like this!
"I-I assure you, I am not with the Masters. I'm fighting against them, the same as you. T-they call me the Witch. A-ask any of the former slaves or your contacts you made, and they will say the same! I promise, I am not one of the Masters. I want... I wanted to see if I and my group could help...?"
Gods she was not good at this! Why couldn't Firen or the others have been nearby to help? She was going to die here and this was all her own fault!
Ruby let herself be shaken, trying not to get too confused or throw up there. Admittedly she had worse before, but that didn't matter. Valeria felt like venting or rather yellign at her, so she waited for her to be finished, before speaking up again.
"Hey now, I never said it was a good idea. I simply said it would be a funny idea. That aside I only was in the sky and powered up a bit, putting on a light show as they say. I didn't know their first reaction to seeing an unknown flying object was to throw stuff at it in an attempt to kill it." Admittedly that surprised her too. She did frown a bit when the other went to her name, but decided to let it pass, seeing no point in commenting on that.
"I haven't blown up any planets though? And besides, aliens are everywhere. I guess you guys just haven't developed the technology to fly into outer space yet, have you?"
"Of course they would! Anyone with a brain realizes that someone with as much power as that isn't looking to sing and dance and party there! Why do you think there are Heroes literally all over Elysum! Villains attack, and you... no offense, kind of look a bit like one." The ruffian look didn't fully help in Valeria's eyes.
"As for space, well... the only ones who would even want to are the Corpos up top. Mana isn't out in space, heroes don't want to leave the planet, and Malos up north is more worried about being isolated from everyone else. Who would want to leave? Besides to just... suffocate in the blank void out there."
"You want 'em all dead?" Well, Selene usually didn't really care about who died or lived. "I'll help you out, but if you say any influence here, does that mean you're planning to off yourself at the end too? Or maybe leave this place altogether? If he has done something to you, doesn't that mean some of his essence exists on a conceptual level within you as well?"
A light chuckle left her lips. "I've never deal with embodiments of concepts before, but it can't be any worse than having to deal with the divine, can it? Not that I have much or any experience with that either. I'm just a little witch with a title and nothing more."
"You... Right, you don't know our curse." Alice murmured, before shrugging. "Fate cursed me and a... friend, we'll call her a friend, with immortality. I can die, but I'll just get right back up. She tends to show it off by stabbing herself in the heart. Me? I just... blow up. And yes, we've tried the whole cut into pieces and separate. We just reconstitute after a minute." They tried more than that, but it just... didn't go well.
"And it's kind of hard? What with him not existing on Morai's surface if his followers don't use an avatar. Infernals like him tend to burn on the surface."
"You've missheard me. I didn't take his attack, I dodged it. It totally woulda burned me alive and you'd have had toasted Vacosian for dinner." Ruby repeated herself, techncially not lying and only giving a shit-eating grin towards Alice. "No really, that attack didn't hit me. I used that teleportation trick from earlier to come back here."
She had to stiffle a laugh once she heard their hero name though. "Nova though? C'mon, that can't be seriously his hero name. Just because he can throw miniature suns, he called himself Nova? Let meguess, he has some sort of super mode where he calls starts calling himself Supernova?"
If Ruby thought that would have kept Valeria from throttling her by shaking her back and forth via her scarf? She was wrong. Because Valeria was now violently shaking her back and forth via her scarf to try and push this lesson in.
"YOU ARE THE DUMBEST, STUPIDEST, MOST BRAIN DEAD MORON I'VE EVER HAD THE MISFORTUNE OF KNOWING AND CONSIDERING MY FRIEND! AND I HAVE A FRIEND WHO ENDS UP EXPLODING EVERYTHING IN HER WAY! FOR THE LOVE OF THE INFERNAL GODS BEYOND, WHY DID YOU THINK INCITING THE HERO LEAGUE WAS A GOOD IDEA!? DID YOU LOSE BRAINCELLS WHEN YOU WERE BORN!? DID YOUR MOTHER DROP YOU DOWN THE STEPS AS A CHILD?! THEY MUST HAVE IF THIS WAS CONSIDERED A GOOD IDEA!"
"And don't get me started on names, Ruby! Seriously, you are named 'Ruby Rose'! Did someone look at you when you were born and say, 'Yes, let's name our daughter after a rock and a plant! That's a perfect idea! Or just call her Red Red!' I'll just call you Red Red from now on if you think names are so stupid! And no, Nova doesn't have a super mode, we're not literal aliens from outer space who destroy planets like your dumbass probably has!"

"Cultists? Not my first time taking down some, so I'm game." A thumbs up from the Duskborne Witch. "What are these cultists worshipping and what's the name of the cult? Is it some sort of old god that will plunge the world into eternal darkness? Maybe chaos or destroy it altogether?"
She was being less genre savvy and more just having a bout of general curiosity. "On that note, how did you stumble across them and why are you hunting them down, partner?"
"The Observers of Fate. They worship the so-called 'concept' of Fate, same asshole who ruined my life and a... companion's life as well. Don't know if he's done the same to others and I don't care. I want them gone, and I want them all dead." She explained, gathering her gear.
"I don't know anything of what he's planning besides cursing me with... An issue besides a dick, and I just want any influence he has here gone. And I stumbled on them by accident, literally just wandering around and ended up in a meeting. Saw me as an idol, I murdered them. End of story."
What is your OC's financial status? Are they just scraping by, making enough to live comfortably, or wealthy? Has there ever been a drastic change in their status? If so, what happened?
{Calling my muses 'scraping by' is basically an understatement. For all but two of them. For Albert and Mirai? They have money, even if the former doesn't really use any of it. As for the rest? Kalliopi has no money for herself since her rebel group has a collective fund, Leandra's on the run from everyone, Valeria lives in the literal shithole of Lower Takun, and Alice is the closest to 'passing by' via her... other activities. In short? Most of the main 'cast' might as well not have any money, and it won't change any time soon.}
