THE WORLD OF BLOOD AND BONES — THE EMPIRE OF SAI

Eight islands south of Ibadet and east of Naja across the Hidari Sea, the Empire of Sai is a swampy, humid archipelago known most for its dragons and a rigid, gender-based class system. Wyverns, the most infamous of the two species, though smaller in size, exist either as expensive pets for the wellborn or as mounts ridden exclusively by Sai’s clericals. Wyrms, closely related to the northern Zvire of the Okraj, are the more common, aquatic counterpart of wyverns, commanded by the military. Most practice Tsukiakari, a celebration of the two moons as sisters as well as the spirits that walk alongside the living, the dying, and the dead. It is ruled by an Emperor of the Seinaru Dynasty, the same dynasty to have united the islands so many hundreds of years ago. Their capital is Shihon, on the island of Hainoshima.

setting ◌ vienna falls, california, 2020. the city is newer than most, rebuilt on the bones of a settlement ignored for centuries until 1946, and is home to one of the many universities that cater to the percentage of the population with superpowers.

world ◌ in the aftermath of world war two, life went on - until in 1947 five out of ten births in the united states of america resulted in a child with superpowers. this is where the history books become unsure, in the decades that would follow and the rising panic, the terror. within five years it was a phenomenon seen worldwide, and the united nations decided to put a stop to the experiments nearly every country was conducting. and yet, after decades of peace, a new subset of powers emerged. most of the information about how guides came to be is classified, but the guide riots that followed their discovery still have several chapters in textbooks.

The Province of Augustine 

“It’s a land of masters. They made this armor. Without Augustine, there is no Somberguard.”  

A smaller Angelan province, Augustine lies below affluent Messaline, the two maintaining lucrative trade. It is known for its highly skilled craftsmen and blacksmiths, responsible for the Somberguard’s armor, the Colossus of Talos, and a majority of the weapons used by the Blightlords. 

It is the seat of power of House Temperantia, vassal of the Imperial House Angelos. 

Walking their trade routes, it is possible to see their golem cities moving alongside you. Almost entirely self-sufficient, it is entirely possibly for cities to disappear for months on end, only to reappear at a moment’s notice. They are piloted by a team of navigators by night. While they serve no greater purpose, Angelans see them as innovation being sidestepped for creativity. 

Angelos had previously attempted to employ the use of golems in warfare, however this proved to be expensive and ineffective. Talos is the most combat effective, as an automaton, but he defends only Evangelos and the methods used in his construction have since been lost. 

Hemagogue 

An infamous golem city stained in tragedy. Ravaged in the wake of the Flavian plague, the city’s resources soon ran dry with no respite in sight. It started with the livestock, then strays, then pets disappearing. Eventually, children began vanishing in the cobbled streets. 

The people of Hemagogue soon learned that the city guard had been luring children and cannibalizing them out of desperation. The men responsible were hanged and the guard was disbanded, but the city was left in an even more vulnerable situation. 

Hemagogue fell into decline and was last spotted over a century ago, but has yet to resurface.

Relationships of TTK~ Belle x Daemon

We have fought each other from the start, we have come close to destroying each other," Daemon's hand settles against the side of my face, his own bathed in moonlight. "But we have loved each other. I have never forgot how you looked that day in your gown or how you took my hand in yours, how much of my own fear I saw in your eyes. I have never forgotten how I felt when you placed our children in my arms. Whenever I look at you, I feel both pride and shame. Pride for what we have built together and shame for not loving you enough."

The relationship between Daemon and Belle is central to her storyline. The two are heirs of the royal line (Belle a child of the previous monarch and Daemon descending from the previous monarch's grandfather), their claims to the throne equally as strong as each other's. Belle is named Queen upon her father's death but she is forced into marrying Daemon in order to stop civil war. The two are similar in personality and have a tendency to have a very fiery relationship together, one minute a happy couple and the other moment at each other's throats. Despite all the obstacles and bad blood between them, they eventually fall for one another. Though they war against each other, they never truly fall out of love.

C H R O M A

middle grade fantasy

In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, an island holds the survivors of a rare but horrific disease: young children considered too dangerous to return to society after they are cured—and changed.

There, they learn to save the world instead. With the strength of giants and speed beyond anything humanity has seen, they learn to control their abilities to use them for good. 

When a new survivor arrives, as unassuming as the rest, the girls of Team Chroma discover suddenly that what they are capable of has barely scratched the surface—and the rest of the island finds that they are not the only survivors of this disease, and that there are plenty of adults who would love to reclaim them, with far more selfish motives for their abilities.

Unfortunately for those adults, Team Chroma are the island’s last line of defense.

Relationships of TTK~ Belle & her grandmother (posthumous at the time of cannon)

"You must never waver in your duty to the kingdom, my child. Your flesh may bruise, your heart may bleed, but you must be steadfast through it all," she had told me, taking my hands in hers. "Always."

At the time of cannon, Belle's grandmother, Elizaveta, is long dead but it is her that Belle finds herself relying on throughout her travails. Her grandmother had raised her, hoping to replace Belle's father (Elizaveta's own son) with her granddaughter as the heir but died before it could be made possible. Belle grows up clinging to the memory of Elizaveta while her father takes the throne. When she does eventually become Queen, the nobles and commons see Belle as Elizaveta returned, as Belle resembles her grandmother in nature as well as by appearance.

Cera is the second prominent country in pawns. It is a slaveholding country, with loud, temper prone citizens who will take any excuse to fight. They have a reputation for drinking. The Moorish call them barbarians, but the Cerans call the Moorish prudes.

The Ceran slavetraders will often sneak over the border to capture Moorish citizens and drag them back to Cera for slavery. Ceran slaves are bought and sold from master to master at their masters’ leisure, and it is not common for a master to grant their slave freedom. Never has a slave bought their freedom, either, and even if they do, they will forever wear their slave tattoo on their left forearm- a flame, Cera’s crest.

Cera’s eastern border is shared with Morland, their west and the south border the ocean, on which where Chariton’s estate of Essely lies. Cera has flatlands like Morland but no mountains. They have a lot of forests.

One Ceran slave (unnamed atm) did become free and published his poetry, written during his enslavement. Many Ceran slaves, and some freemen, have read his work, as well as a few Moorish. Some Moorish begrudgingly call this slave the only good thing to come out of Cera or its slavery. It is a place of common ground.
