Bhagat Singh along with Rajguru and Sukhdev was hanged on March 23, 1931 at the age of 23.

Shivaram Rajguru, born in 1908 and Sukhdev Thapar born in 1907 were 22 and 23 respectively.

These young men must be crestfallen if they can somehow witness the prevailing state of affairs in their beloved motherland.

To me Faiz Ahmed Faiz's nazm 'Subh-e-aazaadi' written on 15th August 1947 ruing the partition of India, aptly sums up the sentiments of these young martyrs.

Yeh daagh daagh ujaalaa, yeh shab gazidaa seher

Woh intezaar tha jiska, yeh woh seher to nahin

Yeh woh seher to nahin, jis ki aarzoo lekar

Chale the yaar ki mil jaayegi kahin na kahin

Falak ke dasht mein taaron ki aakhri manzil

Kahin to hogaa shab-e-sust mauj ka saahil
