‘...because I said so... that’s why...’
When u consider the alarmingly regularity that our parents used phrases like ‘Don’t climb on that, if you fall, you’ll crack your head open and die’ - it’s a wonder that more of us don’t wear crash helmets ... or refuse to leave our homes...
I am a self-fulfilling prophecy
Anyone who knows me... knows I have struggled with certain aspects of Life.
Just lately tho, I’ve come to a few realisations that have really helped me, so I thought I would share and see if I can help someone else.
These thoughts came as something of an epiphany... whilst I was in the shower... which seems to be where I have all my epiphanies lately...
I suppose in a quest to build an identity for ourselves - we tell ourselves that we are a product of our environment.
I told myself that I was a consequence of the area I grew up in, the lack of opportunities, a product of my circumstances... my family, my DNA, the people who had done me wrong.
I guess I should not have been surprised when I become all of those things. I didn’t aspire to be more, because my belief system was stunted.
Recently, I have come to realise just how limited that was.
I have smashed my old beliefs recently and I feel like I am finally free to find out who I REALLY am... not who I told myself up until now.
I am not a product of my environment. I am a product of my mind. I am whatever I tell myself and whatever believe I am.
If my thoughts are the instruction manual, then I still need to put in the practical action. ‘Wanting’ something is not enough, I also have to take steps to get it.
Satisfaction has the word action at the end.
Satisfaction means confident acceptance of something as satisfactory, dependable and true.
I used to relate to The Stones tune ‘Satisfaction’ - because I couldn’t get any either.
I was reading the wrong life story and had the wrong instruction manual.
I am not a product of my circumstances, I am a product of my mind.
Whatever I tell myself becomes true to me.
I am a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Love me...
When I do the washing up, I like to leave that shit on the draining board... ... let people know what they saw here today.

The birth of Stickyfingerltd.com
January 2017, and I keep getting this mad intuition to call my pal Jack, he keeps popping into my thoughts a little more than he usually would…
I give Jack a bell…
‘Yo!? What’s good mate, yada yada yada… ’
Jack is my friend of about 7, maybe 8 years… In a past life, I was the frontman of a rock and roll band called ‘The Filthy Habits’ - and Jack played guitar.
At one stage we beat over 10,000 other acts from all over the country to be crowned ‘Best Indie Act in the UK’ and played at The O2 ~ we went on to play festivals here and on a tiny mini-whirlwind tour of France… point being, Jack is like a little brother to me.. I know him well, and I know just how talented he is…
We drifted somewhat as is to be expected after our band split up, and both Jack and the bassist from The Filthy Habits, Matty, went on to form a folk band with their childhood friends Glen and Lee… HNTR went on to build a solid reputation as one of the most talented bands in Essex…
Cut scene; back to me on the phone with Jack…
Jack: 'This is so weird, I have been thinking of you the last few days, I have been meaning to call you.. I need to talk to you about something…can we meet up?’ -
Law of Attraction in action right there… Jack had been springing into my mind, just as I had been his… anyways… we agreed to meet up. Curiosity and intrigue abound.
Long story short - I met Jack, Matty and Glen in a pub in Billericay, Essex and they explained that the current format of their band could not continue - due to unforeseen circumstances, and that they were gutted..
They were also more determined to carry on than ever - they explain to me how they wanted to develop their sound, showed me their inspirations, identified who they wanted to replace the outgoing members of HNTR and basically sold me the dream… they asked me to get involved in a project - they were building a new band and asked me to manage them…
No brainer.
I had already made my mind up after speaking to Jack on the phone days prior - I knew that this had been coming…
I think I called Eman that same day and spoke to him on my drive home… I sold him the new line up, explained that he would be fronting a new band - front and centre - and he has since told me that he found the enthusiasm and passion that I spoke with as good a reason as any to join up.
New line up complete - TABOU were born - and Stickyfingerltd.com was too.
Whilst I was now the manager of a band - Sticky Finger Enterprises Limited - as a business idea and website was always going to have to be more than just that… my aim was .. and still is, to be honest… to make the business self-sufficient.
The first six months of 2017 were fully taken up by TABOU - this is the long game… the long term dream… the element of the business that HAS no business in even thinking about making money for the foreseeable… but it is also the golden goose, and therefore the most important facet to my business - the truth be told - it is also my favourite - I am a huge music lover - and discovering TABOU and acting as a conduit to facilitate their music being available to the World will hopefully be my legacy to The Universe.
TABOU released their first single in April - and it went off the scale. Ridiculous streams on Soundcloud and mad views for a live video on FB… the track also led me to make contact with one of my musical idols Eddy Temple Morris who played 'Honey’ on his Soho Radio show, the track got frequent air play on BBC Music Introducing in Essex - DJ Ollie and producer Alex took it along with them and played it on BBC Radio One.
We had been well and truly spoilt.
Now that the chaps could get to work, I could start thinking of my future a little more.
The website I decided would act as a recruitment consultancy essentially - for the creative industry - it would incorporate everything from Art, Music and Film.
I love creativity, I love all of the above things - and more over, I had an abundance of dealing with recruitment consultants in my previous career. I knew that they were great sales people, I knew that they made money for doing nothing other than connecting two dots - and I also knew that the business model was transferable.
I would find extremely talented people… some of whom I knew and some I had yet to, and I would use my site as a shop window for them, I would try to win them new business - and take a percentage as commission.
Everyone is a winner. My clients get extremely talented people to work on their projects, my people get more work than they had previously - and I make a living whilst pushing TABOU.
In August, I quit my previous career and made my own business my full time priority.
I acquired a producer in JB Pilon, an artist and graphic designer in James Higgs, and most recently I have recruited a music production team in 'Forest Door’ who write music for tv, film and adverts…
I have gone from sitting in a career that I could do with my eyes closed, and earning a ridiculous salary ~ but which was slowly killing my soul to loving my work - but earning absolutely fuck all.
I knew from the outset that my lack of experience would be my biggest hindrance - and this year has certainly been eye-opening. I am a quick learner though, and I have always told myself that.
I haven’t achieved even 0.5% of what I want or intent to… but these last few months, this whole year to be honest has taught me so much.
Not only has my professional life changed completely - my private life has not been particularly smooth sailing either, but, as the year draws to a close - I feel stronger than I have ever done. I know more about myself than ever before, my weaknesses and my strengths, I have worked on myself and found myself to be more resilient than ever.
Money is not important in life. It has only ever made me miserable…
What is important to me has been realising and then proving to myself that I needn’t be scared or fearful.
It has taught me to take leaps of Faith and jump into the unknown. It has taught me that I am adaptable and that I am malleable …
This year I have also began writing again, and some rewards for that have meant that I was published on my favourite website and also took part in a nationwide press campaign to highlight and prevent male suicide in the uk.
So whilst I am not quite in the position that I would have liked to have been just yet, I have still come a long long way and achieved a lot.
I have experienced things and met the kind of people I would and could never have dreamed of had I not said 'yes’ in the very first instance to Jack… in fact, would I still be in this position now had I not followed my intuition and called him?
It matters not, because I approached the situation with an open heart and an open mind… and I did say 'yes’.
Stickyfingerltd.com is looking healthy as we move into 2018 …
I know where I am, and I know what I need to do…
.. and if things were to implode now… how many other people do you know with zero experience who can say that the first band they ever managed got played on BBC Radio One with their debut single?
Not a bad little feather to have in the cap and I would still walk away super grateful that I have learned as much as I have and have been lucky enough to experience the things I have.
I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to EVERYONE who has helped and supported me this year.
Bring on 2018.
Lots of Love,
Bobby.
The Importance of being earnest.
Here is a little diatribe (of sorts) aimed towards West Ham's joint-chairman David Sullivan - after his woeful interview in the Guardian today. The importance of being earnest.. There are no shortage of opinions on David Sullivan... Here is mine... which I am sure is probably no different to most peoples on this particular site, at least that is the impression I get having read the thread on Messrs Sullivan and Gold and our perception of their intentions and motivations regarding our once unique club. Given that, as alluded to by Sullivan, Mr Gold would appear to be harmless ... . I shall give the old chap a free pass into the next round... I am sure that he is already quite stung by his business partners comments that essentially paint him as the clubs octogenarian mascot... Ooooof. Sullivan on the other hand.... Yeurghhhk.... that is the only word I can think of. If I am completely honest, I am not sure if my opinion of Sullivan is clouded from the outset by his appearance. The fact that he physically looks odious (toadious anyone?) definitely does not help his cause in my eyes... but it goes so much further than that. I would never begrudge a self-made man...to have done so well for himself financially would appear to be a testament to the chap... that is until you realize that: 1/ The business model he has been involved in whilst building his fortune has it's foundations set in the simple principle of 'buy cheap, buy in bulk, sell high'. Nothing wrong with that, but it does make him more 'market trader' than it ever will 'boardroom tycoon' - more to the point is that, that particular type of business acumen does not necessarily make a person well suited to running what is supposed to be one of the Worlds most elite football clubs. In fact, quite the opposite. 2/ The particular market in which he made his pound note will always paint him as a rather classless and tasteless man... so whether he is personally lacking in taste (he definitely is... we have all seen the pictures of the inside his gaff) or not... unfortunately sh*t sticks ... and so whenever I read his name, I think of a couple of things... the first is that episode of 'Only fools' where Del buys the hazardous blow up sex dolls... and the second thing I think of ... for some reason... is how utterly ridiculous and almost perverted The Sunday Sport was/is (is that still going?) So before I even begin to consider the things he says and does regarding the club, I already have the image in my mind of someone who is sleazy, crass and unashamedly so... They say that money cannot buy taste...and Mr Sullivan would be the perfect example of anyone wishing to make that point. No... what really irks me about Sullivan is the way that he appears to be completely obnoxious and utterly ignorant. Not just ignorant to the fact that he IS obnoxious, but I mean to say utterly ignorant of absolutely everything and everyone around him.. It seems that his only concern is his complete obsession with how he is perceived... or at least how he perceives himself and how he wants people to perceive him. It is the mark of a real lack of character in a person when that person is so oblivious or inconsiderate to other people - that they do not care how they are portraying someone else, as long as they come out of the story looking as though they were right, or that it wasn't their fault or that they could have done better given the chance. The reality is....that trait makes a person look like a complete c*nt. One word - Insecurity. I think it must be awful to have climbed to the top of the money tree, accumulated all of that wealth and yet even now ... in 2017, you still cannot pay to have an operation to make you any taller. So, sorry David... it doesn't matter if you DO ultimately achieve your end game of securing the London Stadium for next to nothing ... and then selling us out to the highest bidder....you will still only be 4ft and fart. The problem with someone who never recognizes their own faults is that they are guaranteed to perpetually make the same mistakes over and over again... OUR problem is that until his mistakes start to hurt his pocket book... my guess would be that Mr Sullivan will continue to find people, reasons and excuses as to why things are never his fault. In fact, it would almost seem to me that Sullivan is so pig headed and has such delusions of grandeur around himself that he could well be capable of systematically making the same errors over and over agin until he lost absolutely everything - and still find a way to escape taking any responsibility. He doesn't appear to have even the slightest capacity to be able to take an objective view of himself - and that, in my eyes ... is why he will never be the right man to run the club I love. Someone who refuses to change, progress or grow will never be more than what they are currently... and so whilst Mr Sullivan might be happy enough to continue to kid himself into thinking the World respects him or admires him... the reality is that the way people perceive him is the complete opposite of what he actually craves... and deep down he knows it. People think he is a liar and a p*ick... and that is because he is. The interview that came out today was absolutely disgusting... embarrassing, humiliating, tactless, and showed a staggering amount of self-absorption. The only positive really, to be honest ...is that it is now starting to show Sullivan - very publicly (at last) - as being all of the things that we have slowly become aware of over the years. Conceited, ignorant, dishonest, self-obsessed, egotistical narcissist. The move to The London Stadium 'will not change our lives'.... NO!?! Well maybe if you'd have told us that from the beginning David, we might well have told you to go fuck yourself. I'm super confused - because to me 'next level' would be changing our lives...so which one is it? Call yourself a West Ham fan?.. B*llshit. I read on the forum earlier, a post from a chap who said there almost appears to be two West Hams now....the one that he used to love and feel a part of....and the current one that he feels absolutely no affinity for. That is exactly how I feel too. Sullivan and the rest of his mobs actions seem to have almost brought what I knew as West Ham to extinction. I don't really care about the club anymore to be honest, I spend more time reading the opinions of the fans on KUMB than I do watching games now... and therein lies the rub. It is not the players, the results, the manager, the chairman... all of those things have changed over the years... and none of them matter... those things are nothing more than a catalyst that all combine to serve us up a multitude of things to discuss.... The only constant .... literally the ONLY constant within the confines of a football club are the fans. Moving us from Upton Park completely killed what I recognized as being a huge part of the clubs soul.... and even though we are on the ropes... the club, despite being homeless, will always remain. I would go as far as to make this assertion - whilst the number of real fans who decide not to go and watch the team anymore goes up, and the clubs woes continue at the hands of an egotistical despot - this club could suffer consecutive relegations... the a*se could well and truly fall out of Sullivan's little toy.... and then once the London Stadium has gone, and once Sullivan has eventually sold his shares to 'Honest Dave's Automobiles' for a tenner and finally f*cked off.... and once we are playing Dagenham and Redbridge....the real fans will still be there. On a cold Tuesday night in December ... with an attendance of a few thousand in some shit hole semi professional football ground - The real spirit of West Ham will rise up again and those fans who are too young to have been a part of it before, will get to experience their own 'chicken run'. ....and it is that lack of foresight that will ultimately kill Sullivan. I am so sorry to have to say this Dave... but it's not about YOU or YOUR money or YOUR 'porn' star wife (shocker by the way) ... I know this sounds conceited...but the reality is...this is all about US... it always has been and it always will be. Either realize that double sharpish mate ...or F*CK OFF! Posted to KUMB. West Ham fans forum - Knees up mother brown.
Spiritual Lyrical Miracles
TABOUs next track was supposed to be some funky as fuck banger called 'Lazy Flavour' but we decided to save that weapon for a bit later on... Instead we went in the completely opposite direction (as you do??) and decided to release 'Galaxies Apart' at the end of the month. It's a slow soulful ballad I suppose ... 🤷🏻♂️.... packed with lead licks ... and a wicked wicked vocal... ... what I love most about it though is the lyrics... 👌🏻 The chaps wrote 'Honey' with the express intention of it being as commercial as possible - and the lyrics reflect that. The lyrics on 'Galaxies Apart' tho... pfffft.... they are fucking brilliant. 🙌🏻 Trust me, as a spiritual lyrical miracle myself ... someone who writes blogs, songs and poems - the depth and emotion of these lyrics - full of soul and vulnerability - combined with the Universal theme ... 🙏🏻💫✨⭐️🌌💜💕💕💕💕 I dunno what it is about this one ... It's just really evocative and paints a vivid picture rather beautifully. 🎨 Anyways... I love music... and specifically music with deep lyrics - so fuck you. 🤷🏻♂️
Dogshit Revolution.
Just had a mad moment of nostalgia. The root cause was thinking about Andrea Aggasi. You know how when you are a kid and get into scrapes? I remember one example that almost scared me into being good. Here is an typical story of the utter brainlessness of youth and young manhood. Seems to me that most of my extra-curricula activities used to centre around jumping over the big spiked fence and knocking about with my mates over the school - after dark. This would have been around primary school age. I remember the caretaker (Tony his name was, my mate pissed onto his head from the school roof once) - done a particularly slap dash job of locking up one night. Now, whatever creative genius/sadistic torturer came up with with this next idea was a real piece of work - I genuinely don't know who thought of it, but a plan was hatched to stick a dog turd on Mr Fullicks chair. With some insane dexterity using a couple of pencils, balance and a lot help from physics - this fine turd was placed atop this teachers throne. A teacher who, I hasten to add, must have been a real prick for me to have gotten involved in this caper. Anyways. Phase 1 - complete. Phase 2 - to break into the school mobile (little extra classroom building on it's own - it wasn't even mobile to be honest) - knick the football shirts we already used to wear when representing the school team anyways (?!?!?!?! - Genius) and smash some little tiny sciencey light bulbs - yeah - fuck you society - and fuck you Mr Fullick. I ran home as fast as my legs could carry me. Football shirt ditched safely under the bed - Suddenly nervous about returning to the scene of the crime in the morning (criminals ALWAYS return to the scene of the crime) - Cue the next morning and a thousand little intrigued noses pressed up against glass windows to watch Mr Fullick sit on a dogshit. When it happened and the realisation sank in - his eyes flickered as though he was going to go nuclear, but then he kind of imploded as a man and literally just stood up and walked out. Never to be seen again. Rumour has it that he had a break down. I felt a bit sorry for him to be honest. It all seemed a bit 'Lord of The Flies' after the glow of tribal victory had absconded. Fast forward and I am sitting in class when the headmistress pokes her head around the door... 'Er Ms, could we have a word with Robert shortly ... the boys in blue are coming?' - I'd been fucking set up. I wasn't going down without a fight though, and in a scene reminiscent of something out of 'Catch me if you can?' - I hatched an idea. 'Miss can I go to the toilet please?' - at which point I fucked off home and told me Mum what had happened. I got to stay off school for two weeks after that and watched Andrè Agassi win Wimbledon... So I guess the moral of the story is that crime does pay - Mr Fullick was exiled for the price of a fresh turd and I got away with a police caution. Na... the true story is that I was absolutely terrified - The Police came to my house and I was waiting anxiously for hours... in the end I had to go down and say 'erm.. am I still in trouble?' 1 and the whole thing just kinda blew over. No thanks to Dean Field... one of our fellow revolutionaries who turned grass we later found out. Weak man. Any decent caper is ALWAYS ALWAYS brought down by an inside man. Still - the point being is that boredom can lead to you getting involved in some mindless shit. Quite literally sometimes. Viva La Dogshit. Viva La Revolution.

A slave to spirituality.
Sometimes I hate the fact that I am an addict, and other times - particularly after a meeting, I am reminded that my spirituality would probably be non-existent without it. I would swap the cards I've been dealt with anyone else's... cos I know these cards very well... and have had a lot of time to plan my next moves... It's got nothing to do with your vorsprung durch technik y'know and it's not about you joggers who go round and round and round. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome - it IS the definition of insanity. That never stopped me tho. In fact, it spurred me on to try being wrong even harder. Sure - it might have taken 35 years, but after all the time wasted by pulling on the door, it feels good in the moments when I stop, read the sign and 'push' it instead. In the words of 'General Levy' - 'Incredible'. ✌🏻
Are ya mad fer it??
I was mental about Oasis growing up... people used to slag the haircut and the wallabies off at first... a year later and you are all rocking that look now yeah? Ha! One of my best mates older brothers (Darren Casey) was the first person to put me onto 'Some might say' - after that I saw Oasis perform on 'The Word' - might have been their first tv appearance. I was fully addicted. Fond memories of waiting outside HMV back in the days for an album to drop... fighting the urge to run home with that shit just so as to be able to play it that few minutes sooner. Oasis - Earls Court 97 - I was 15 years old... my mum treated me to a few new bits to wear - I bought a yellow and blue knitted YSL roll neck, back when YSL was a proper decent make. I remember it vividly. My over-riding memory of that gig is being really fearful of the crowd at the start of the day... and by the end, jumping up and down with my arms wrapped around the shoulders of complete strangers... sharing a lunatic smile and a memory that will last a life time... Those Oasis gigs were almost tribal- a shared common bond unifying at one point over 100k people... I remember when I heard they were filming the video to 'D'ya know what I mean?' near my area... I didn't go over there... I wish I had now. What Oasis did in music will never be replicated - ... or until they reunite at least anyways...
Joker...
Here you go ... here's a couple of Zingers I just wrote... I'll give you two options for a punchline - depending on your level of distaste. Ahem... 'When I was a kid my mum took me and my sister to the cinema to see the film - 'Dead Poets Society' - it was that soul destroyingly boring - that as I walked out of the cinema ... I remember feeling jealous of the boy in it who hung himself...' (A bit much, I know..) - Or... 'Once when I was a kid I sat through the film 'Kramer vs Kramer' - the emotional turmoil and pure anguish that family went thru in that movie hurt me a 1m % more than the actual consequences caused by my old man fucking off.... ... spent my adolescence feeling guilty for missing Dustin Hoffman more than I missed my own Dad... 'Galaxies Apart'
There was a lot of back and forth during a meeting recently over what track TABOU should drop next... Originally the plan was to drop 'Lazy Flavour' - a 2m 20sec tune that is as funky as James Brown jive talkin with a Harlem hooker ... but in all honesty, it was decided that that particular track is just too good to release just yet... That is not supposed to sound arrogant in the slightest by the way. We all recognise that growth takes time... TABOU have done well, but in the grand scheme of things - we haven't even really started yet. If you can't work out quite why I love this band so much or cannot understand what there is for me to get so excited about... then know this.. I get to see what they have up their sleeves... I would say back in the day if you bought an album and liked 4 out of 10 songs on there - that band were considered to have done well and were probably commercially successful... TABOU don't just have 2/3 wicked songs... they have enough tracks to make a fucking insane album. If albums were still a thing ... which they are not... TABOU are the most fluidly creative band I have ever seen... what genre? what genre? I hate that question... Listen to 'Honey' - Then listen to 'Upgrade' - completely different. We toyed with dropping 'Lazy Flavour' because it is a punchy, hip hop beat heavy, wah pedal funky riff loaded head nodding radio worthy banger - again - something completely different - ... but it's too good to drop - it's a song for Spring/Summer... and to appreciate and celebrate that songs potential properly - and help it reach as many music lovers as we can - We have to be in better shape as a project than we are now. Growth needed first. No shame in that. This is where I know that I have backed a winning horse though... So rather than dropping 'Lazy Flavour' - the alternative choice was a track called 'Galaxies Apart'... 'Galaxies Apart' is about as far away from 'Lazy Flavour' as you could get... polar opposites. 'Galaxies' is a smooth, slow ... soul jam... it's a love song drowned in melodic perfection. The Universal references in the lyrics are deep and beautiful. 'Galaxies Apart' will be TABOUs third single and will be released at the end of Nov hopefully... The point being though... this track is yet another different reflection of TABOU. The thing I have realised recently? There is no rush. Have you ever heard that phrase 'Yeah, it took me ten years to become an overnight success' ... that's food for thought. I have promised and committed the next six months of my focus towards helping TABOU... I would expect us all to be in a position to be able to focus on music full time by the end of that period... but for that to be the case - that means that the next six months will have had to have been fully utilised and maximised. Six months is ample time to grow into an even more impressive reflection of your best self - but no hard work and no effort equals no rewards and no good luck. Hard Graft required. I know in my soul that TABOU have it in them to be four young blokes who are so talented musically that they get to do it full time. I know that TABOU already have the next 10 songs that they are going to need ready. I know the songs that they write in six months time will be even better than what they are producing now. Which is scary. Cos what they are producing now is fucking stupendous. If it is not the next track that does it for them, then it will be the one after... and if it's not that one, then it will be the one following that... ... the songs are there - When there is enough of their material online to be listened to back to back - I think people will then come to realise just how sick this band actually are.
Know thyself.

Darling ... reach out.
Anti-social media. Crunch. Solid opening line. It's been a while since I wrote anything. I've been busy ain't I? Can't always be writing - I've got other stuff I have to do as well. I have a life I have to live. A human one. I saw a funny image the other day, and it said remember when we used to use the expression 'brb' if we had to leave an online conversation - we don't do that anymore. We live here now. That's what I'm saying. Anti-social media. Seems to me that my life is split thusly in reference to my relationships - Online relationships - 80%. Real life relationships - 20%. I will say though, I am single - which probably screws with the average. Anyhoots.. the point is - we spend a hefty slice of our time cultivating new relationships online... but how many of those people have you met in reality? How many have you spoken to in the flesh? How many genuinely new friends have you made? I've met loads of people this year. I've met a ton of people on FB, and then gone out of my way to go and meet up with them, or extend an invite their way... I think it's important for us to be fearless in that way. Social constraints are just that. The power of social media should be in it's ability to connect people.. to share with each other. Jokes, stories, ideas, memories. The idea is to continue to make memories though ... if we never take time to actually go off-line and meet people - different people... go to different places, do different things - then we are just rehashing the same ol tales as last week aren't we? I find social media massively immersive. As do we all. Why wouldn't we... it was designed to hypnotise ... It's a mental construct of an imagined alternate reality. Our profile is our best version of our filtered selves as we can possibly polish. Your avatar. Like it or not, social media is essentially the equivalent of a role playing platform game. War of Warcraft. Without the walking about. It's safe there... and cosy... and comfortable. It doesn't rain when you are online eh? Yet still... Animals always seek shelter. Why would you want to leave the comfort of your confines? Why go outside and go and do something nerve wracking like meet new people? Thats what makes it anti-social media. One of the most positive and biggest changes in my life this last year has centred around making new friends and meeting new people. I have met some absolutely beautiful people. I have met some insanely talented people, I have met good people. I have met some throughly decent people, and I have met some people that are just alright. I haven't met one arsehole yet. Those experiences and meetings and circumstances and times spent together have enriched my personal life... and most of those people I met via social media. If you take the opportunity for human connection out of the equation - social media just becomes a vacuous, soul sucking, time consuming thought toilet, where you can dump your brains out when you need to spout shite. Using social media should result in your social life improving and you becoming more sociable... in society. If not... then perhaps you are being hypnotised by anti-social media.
Jelly Beans for breakfast.
When I was growing up, only a baby still really … my mum had a boyfriend called ‘Bobby’ or 'Big Bob’ - he was called 'Big Bob’ and I was known as 'Little Bob’ (this might lend contribution to my narcissistic egocentric lack of self-worth as an adult… something worth revisiting maybe) …. anyways… Big Bob was fucking cool as shit.
Before school he used to take my older sister and I to the cafe and we’d have burgers, chips and milkshakes for breakfast.
If you saw a magazine in a shop and wanted the little toy/keyring/sparkly item attached to the front more than the magazine itself, you’d find the little toy being pressed into your palm as you stepped outside. Big Bob will have nicked it for you. Not that he was short of a few bob, he was minted. It was just the principle. 🤷🏻♂️
I remember he was bald at the top and used to have the rest of it shaved with the clippers around the sides.
He tried to cut my hair once, we had to get my mums mate Bev round - she had her own hairdressers - to try to level out the bald patch he done on me.
He used to go commando as well, I remember copying him one morning when I was still at infants school.
Mortified that day when I realised we had PE… erm Miss… Miss… (*tugs at sleeve) - can I get changed in the toilets please? Why? …because I have no pants on.
Shame-faced. But living as Bob did… there were always going to be big lows to make those incredible highs…
I resolved to always incorporate a bit of the 'Big Bob’ haphazard, exciting, intoxicatingly off the wall behaviour into my parenting - and even when parenting myself.
How’s a kid supposed to know that’s anything is possible, if you don’t let them have jelly beans for breakfast.
Viva La Big Bob.
