Artists of tumblr it seems really controversial but if I find fan art on Pinterest that doesn’t link back to the artist of it but I post to my blog and I always say to credit back to original artist even though I don’t know their @ or name and I never claim as my own what should I do honestly? I would take it down if the artist directly told me to. I know many artist here do not want reposting but they clearly have it posted and I always do as they say I’m just kinda conflicted I guess. Just want to make sure I’m not being rude to artists and illustrators

I don't know an artist who would react positively to seeing their work reposted without a proper credit. If I see [credit to original author] without any link I usually treat it a red flag and avoid that blog. Do you try to find an artist if there's no link? Usually reverse image search can find the original quite effectively (filtering out pinterest results makes it even more so - pinterest tends to clog up the search). If you actually can't find an original creator I'd say it's better not to repost it cause it's indeed viewed as rude and disrespectful.

Sidenote: even if there's artists @ in the watermark on the picture actual link will always be viewed more positively. You already created a post, adding a link shouldn't be much trouble.
