Seriously, I have no idea because I'm not qualified on this topic whatsoever. Could it be that "attention seeking" and the like probably comes from deep seated insecurity?

If so then it's probably something of a cycle, like: a person feels abandoned, neglected, unloved, or insecure -> acts out as a way to ask for reassurance and validation -> receives a reaction which temporarily sates the need and makes them feel better -> when that reaction ends, they feel newly abandoned and the cycle starts again.

If that's the case then what the person needs is to be able to break away from the cycle, to be able to self-soothe, or seek reassurance in a way which is lasting (such as through counselling). To develop a strong foundation of self-belief and security which doesn't rely on others.
