A former car dealer turned mayor, Ted will seize any opportunity, often without properly thinking things through.

He has caused controversy ever since he became mayor not long after violence in New Sixam killed a number of Sixamians, and his silence about it has concerned people. He has little respect for history, only thinking forward - going as far as to build a laboratory in the New Sixam crater, a place sacred to a civilisation who used to live there. Nobody knows anything about this lab except Ted, General Buzz and the scientists who work there.

Which of your characters have your favorite dynamic? Whether it's a romance, a friendship, or a rivalry - what makes that dynamic your favorite to write? Has it always been part of your story, or did it develop naturally as your characters grew?

There are simply too many character dynamics that bring me joy, so I picked my top 4 - because why choose just one treat when you can have many?

Number 4: Alexander and Avery (and Tao)

I'm a sucker for found family, so of course I had to include Alexander's and Avery's dynamic on this list - especially when Tao is involved. The three of them always remind me that family is about the people who choose to stand by your side, rather than the people you're related to by blood. Every time I get to work on scenes with all three of them, my heart melts. 🤍

Number 3: Avery and Saheen

I'm also a sucker for good old doomed yaoi™, and if finding out that the man you loved, and who shaped you into the person you are today has been conducting illegal human experiments and killed at least a dozen people in the process isn't doomed yaoi, then I'm not sure what is. Every time I work on a scene featuring Avery and Saheen together, I can't help but feel heartbroken for both of them. (One day, I need to come up with an alternate universe where they simply get to live a happy life together and experience all the happy moments my story's universe refuses to give them.)

Number 2: Alexander and Nico

I still get a good laugh whenever I think back to Nico's and Alexander's first interaction. We haven't explored their relationship much since then, but I have some grand plans for them in future updates. *rubs hands together excitedly*

Number 1: Avery and Finn

We still have quite a long road ahead before we get there in the story, but out of every dynamic in The Infected, theirs is my absolute favorite.

On the surface, The Infected is about the Strangerville crisis and solving the mystery surrounding the Motherplant infection. But to me, it has always been a vehicle to explore how two people - both traumatized by the same person, albeit in very different ways - can find a path toward healing through each other.

And that's exactly what Finn's and Avery's relationship is to me: two deeply hurt people who lost their trust in life and developed very different ways of coping, only to help each other find hope in life again. 😌

Text The rain poured steadily as Nikolas sat alone, soaked to the bone, staring silently at the ground. Benedikt spotted him from a distance and hurried over, worry written all over his face. "Hey... what's wrong?" Benedikt asked softly. "Why are you sitting out here in the rain?" Nikolas barely looked up. "Hm? ...Just leave me alone. I just want to be by myself." Benedikt frowned and stepped closer. "Do you really want to be alone... or is something bothering you? Is it because you're hungry? I told you before—you can always have some of my blood whenever you need it." Nikolas immediately shook his head. "No! I don't want to! You're too important to me." A gentle smile crossed Benedikt's face. "And you think it isn't important to me that I want to help you?" he asked. "You're important to me too, Nikolas. That's exactly why I want to help." Nikolas clenched his fists, his voice trembling. "I... I can't, Ben." Benedikt sighed, his expression warm and reassuring. "It doesn't bother me at all. Just take it. You don't have to go through this alone, okay?" Nikolas let out a frustrated curse. "...Fuck." For a moment, neither of them spoke. Only the sound of the rain filled the silence. Finally, Benedikt held out his hand. "So... shall we go?" Nikolas looked at him for a long moment before giving a small nod. "...Yeah. Okay."
