"Yeah, I guess you really do need me!" Midna laughed along with Link, a smile on her face. She loved having him around. It made her day, no, year, seeing him here again.
"Although I’d appreciate it if you didn’t call me a shadow monster, Link!" With that, she flicked him on the cheek, still smiling herself. Looks like she still needs to boss him around! He had needed a bit of a nudge sometimes. But that’s what Midna was going to fix.
He flinched away from her flick, smiling. It was still strange seeing her in her true form. He'd gotten so used to her hanging off him in her imp form, that it was odd to associate that voice with her true self.
"I'll try and resist the temptation," he promised. "I guess it's really not something to call a princess, huh?" And there it was. The inescapable reality that years had passed between them. Even if it hardly felt like it.
"How has it been, here? Hyrule is doing well. Almost everything is back to normal now, but I guess you guys had a whole other set of problems to deal with."

4: a “please remember to…” note
Link, please remember to actually wake up at a decent time tomorrow. I don’t want you all drowsy and sleep deprived. You’re pretty useless like that. - Midna.
Reading the note, he frowned. Decent. Noon was decent, right? Right.

"Please don’t be sad, Link. You’re here now. That’s all that matters to me at the moment." As she spoke, Midna pulled Link into another hug, but this time, it was gentler, more loving.
"I really did miss you.. I’m so glad you found a way to fix the mirror. I can’t believe you managed to do it," Midna laid her head on his shoulder, just wanting to spend time with him.
He smiled, and then laughed, finally daring to let himself believe it had actually worked. He had really found a way back to her, and his itching fear that she wouldn't have wanted to see him to begin with seemed to be thoroughly unfounded.
"Oh come on. You had to know if I'd go that far for Ilia and the kids, I'd be willing to do just as much to get you back. How am I supposed to live without my shadow monster? There's been no one to tell me all the things I'm doing wrong. Just imagine all the mistakes I've made without you there to tell me to knock it off."

"That’s alright, I know you did mean it." Link was always quick to forgive someone and that even included a total stranger. "Besides you seem like you can hand yourself as well." He remarked point to the young man’s sword and shield.
"I also use to live the forest believe it or not so I’m quite familiar with the area surrounding it." But the older was right, what reason did he have to go back there? He usually went back there to visit friends but that was about it.
"I do alright," he grinned, shrugging. If there was one thing he was proud of, it was his sword fighting. Well, that and goat wrangling, but only one of them tended to impress other people, and it wasn't the fuzzy one.
Hmm, that sounded a bit strange. "You lived in the forest? I didn't think there was another village around here..."

"I do have faith in you. I just thought that the mirror was unrepairable. I broke it with very powerful, old, magic." Slowly, reluctantly, Midna released Link from the hug, but didn’t move away, staying close to him.
"Please, tell me. how did you fix it?" Midna was incredibly curious as to how Link had managed to fix it. As far as she knew, once she had broken the mirror, there was no way to fix it. Maybe there was some information the elders had neglected to tell her.
"I can’t think of any way that I would have even been able to fix it myself. i wanted to, so badly. But I couldn’t. I researched so much, I read practically every book on the ancient magics and the mirror. I just wanted to see you again."
A slight frown turned down his lips as he thought over her words. They were an unhappy reminder of the many times he had begun to think repairing it was impossible as well.
"I was beginning to think there wasn't a way. I didn't find it in Hyrule anyway. There's a land called Termina. A very broken land. There's a magic there capable of fixing things that are beyond all repair. It took a while, a long while, but I found it."
The little girl’s eyes lit up and she clasped her hands, at the mention of the goats. She certainly had heard that place was famous for its goats, amongst other things. She just couldn’t wait to pet them.
"Yes… I think he’s called the Hero of Twilight around here" she replied, now smiling a bit more sheepishly "He saved the whole kingdom from the shadows! I’d like him to teach me his ways!"
She seemed excited. Maybe he could show her the goat corral. They loved guests. Usually. Except for when they used the commotion to try to escape...But then, they used everything as an excuse to escape, so that was nothing new.
His own sheepish grin mirrored hers, his hand going to the back of his neck. He doubted he'd ever get used to that title. "That would, uh, yeah, that's me. I hope that's not too disappointing?" Most of the people that came looking for him always seemed to be expecting some battle hardened, scarred stoic warrior type. 'Goat boy' tended to be a bit of a let down.

"Both my parents are deceased so I doubt I’m related to you in any way." He replied. "Also I can take care of myself thank you very much. I now how to conduct myself in the woods. They’s why I have a sword and shield for protection."
"Ah, sorry. I uh, didn't mean to say that out loud." There was a very good reason he usually kept his mouth shut, he had a wonderful habit of sticking his foot right in it otherwise. Insult the parentless child. Great going.
Moving along...He smiled, nodding at the kid. "I guess you do, huh? Ah, you'll probably be fine then. There's nothing too bad around here. Not anymore. There's some nasty stuff farther in the forest, but I doubt you'd have any reason to go there."

"Oh come on! You've gotta be kidding me."
"It’s okay, really! Although I do like apples" she smiled, then giving a greeting bow "My name is Ivy! I’m an errant squire… and I heard there was a formidable knight living in this village!"
"If you like apples, you're in luck! The orchards are having a huge crop this year. All the goats are happy with all the cores they've been getting." He smiled in return, warming up a bit as he spoke.
"Nice to meet you, Ivy. You're looking for a knight, huh? I uh...might be him. " There had been a lot more people coming by to ask about just that ever since his journey had ended. Unless she meant Rusl. Maybe she meant him.

Reunite! Has the Search Ended?
It started as small giggles, but slowly got louder, before Midna was in a full fit of laughter. He had always been a bit of a dork, and he still was, even after three years! Slowly, the laughter died down, and Midna gave Link the brightest smile she had ever given anyone since she broke the mirror.
"Goddesses, Link! You’re such a dork! I missed you." With that, Midna closed the gap between them and encased him in a tight hug. She didn’t want to let him go. It had been three years, and Midna had been miserable. This is the happiest she’s been in a long time.
Not releasing him, Midna nuzzled into his shoulder, confused. “Link, how did you even get here? I broke the mirror..” She had to know. Had he repaired it somehow? Was there some other way into the Twilight Realm she didn’t know of?
She was laughing at him. Three years later, traveling multiple countries to find a way, all that work, and the first thing she did was laugh at him.
Gods he'd missed her. Laughing with her as she darted forward, his arms wrapped as easily around her as if they had done it a thousand times. "I missed you too," he murmured, just as unwilling to release her. In fact, if he had his way, he never would. Not now. Not ever again.
"I fixed it," he said with a wink in answer to her question, not without a note of sneaky pride. "Don't sound so surprised. Are you really that shocked that I could find a way? I thought you'd have more faith in me than that."
//Holy crackleberries, this fandom scares the crap outta me. There are so many of you...What if I suck at this? Are there rules for writing Link that I do not know? What if I screw up canon? Oh dear. So nervous.
