The last song I heard before we met was “Time after Time” by Cindy Lauper. A song that has been a long time favorite of mine. One that I think manages to put into words my dedication to being the father you deserve, and the love I hold for you in my heart. After spending 36 hours in the hospital waiting for you at your mothers’ side, I was too exhausted to stand while she delivered you. The moment I saw you the fatigue left my body and I began to cry. You’re the most perfect thing I’ve ever seen and I stood up and followed them to where they cleaned you off, you reached a hand out, I reached back for you and you grabbed my finger. It’s still a surreal feeling to think that you knew your father was by your side without even having to see me there. It’s been less than 24 hours and you’re still far more more perfect than anything I could have ever expected. You’re the girl of my dreams, and I couldn’t be happier to say I’m your father. This is a love letter to my newborn baby girl, Nina Diana Mastera. No matter what happens in life, even when there are days we argue and you hate me, know that everything I do from this day forward is for you, and to give you the life you deserve. Come hell or high water, you’ll always be my precious, little Nina D.
