so I might be a wolf therian?
Does any wolf therian have any tips or something? How can I be sure? I’ve already questioned both the eurasian and timber wolf theriotype, but I’m confused, even though a wolf feels more right than a dog (my current theriotype)
Hi there! My suggestion for you would be to take some time and really think about the specifics of how you feel. What is it that draws you to canines? What sort of social structure feels natural to you? What physical characteristics feel the most “right”? If you get mental shifts or phantom/astral limbs this will be a little easier since you have explicitly therian experiences to dissect: when you have a mental shift, what specifically do you want to do? Can you picture your phantom/astral limbs in your minds eye? If so, what do they look like? What size do you feel like you are? Write down everything you can think of, even if it seems silly and inconsequential.
Then, do as much research as you can stomach until you hit on something that seems like it fits. Try it on, tell yourself that’s what you are. Not just for a few minutes, but for a multiple days or more. How does it feel? What “clicks” and what doesn’t? Keep taking notes, and trust your gut. If after some time marinating it doesn’t feel quite right, repeat this process. Don’t limit yourself to just species you assume are right, either: open yourself up to the whole canidae family. Try on foxes and dholes and maned wolves, maybe even some extinct species. The biggest mistake you can make is to limit your possibilities because of assumptions.
If you feel like you’re getting stuck, take a break for a week or two and stop thinking about it altogether. Enjoy yourself and don’t rush, it’s okay not to be sure yet! Not knowing your exact species doesn’t make you any less of a therian; this stuff can take months or years.
Good luck! Feel free to message me if you have any questions or want someone to bounce ideas off of ~
Plus, you can’t be sure. No one can be since identity is intangible. Also, remember that there are more species of canine out there than wolves and dogs and that many species are very canine-like despite being another class of mammal altogether.
