Hi Aly, I've seen some comments on FB saying that Liz's love confession doesn't mean that she loves Ressler - how "I love you for that" is not the same as straight-up "I love you". I really hope it's the latter, but curious to hear your take on it, because you always have such good detailed analysis on their relationship! And do you think he hears her confession? If he's semi-conscious and could hear where Bino's taken her, then he should, right? Thanks so much!
Trust your instincts anon and ignore FB. If people need to hear those three words in isolation to comprehend that Liz was telling Ressler that she loves him - both in the hearse AND in the back of the restaurant - then I feel sorry for them. Ressler certainly understood what she meant in the hearse. (Forehead touch!)
For whatever reason, I live in a world where people aren’t who they seem to be. It’s hard to know what or who to believe. But you. You’ve always been there. The real you, telling me the truth. And I love you for that. There, I said it! It wasn’t in the back of a hearse, but, hey, the back of a Chinese restaurant is pretty good. You’re okay. We’re gonna make it out of here. I promise.
"I love you for that" is no different than "I love you because..." She just chose to state her reasons first. She's telling him that loves him because he's always been there, the real him, telling her the truth. It's more than just an "I love you," she's explaining why she feels that way. And her "there, I said it!" put an exclamation point on her declaration.
I'm sure if he heard her in the restaurant that he understood what she meant then too. I would like to think he heard her since he obviously heard the part about where she was being taken and the way his hand tightened on hers just before she was taken was lovely.
Hopefully we will find out eventually when they see each other.
