WHERE do they live? which town? is it a flat, a big estate, a terraced house…?

Glenda lives in Hogsmeade and rents the place above the Magic Neep. It’s a small place, but it’s pretty neat --- she can walk to work, stagger home drunk from the Three Broomsticks without having to apparate and lives in Scotland, which is pretty damn cool, if you ask her.

why do they live there? how come they started living there? 

She wanted to move out the second she could. She loves Liverpool, really, but the neighbourhood she lived in -- Toxteth -- was quite shit. After starting working at WWN, her decision was quickly made, and she moved to Hogsmeade. She rented a room first from an older local witch, and moved to her place above the Magic Neep when she had started earning a bit more and saved some cash, at age twenty three.

tell us more about the decoration of the house

There’s posters bloody everywhere. Posters she nicked from concerts, once she bought, once she got through her work ... Glenda has covered one wall of her living room with just posters, and it’s mad busy, but she loves it. She uses a lot of earth tones at her place -- reds and oranges and deep pinks -- and contrasts that with plants. It’s all a bit of an explosion, really, but she loves it.

what’s their favourite room?

Her bedroom. Glenda loves just laying on her bed, staring at the ceiling and listening to some music play in the background. She also loves sleeping. A lot. It’s also her go to place when she’s high.

if they have close-by neighbours, what’s their relationship with them?

Besides the fact that she can make a lot of noise, it’s pretty good. Glenda’s a sociable bean and loves talking to her neighbours about recent developments, the weather and gossip about the rest of the neighbourhood. Hogsmeade is a pretty neat place to live, to be honest.

how much time do their actually spend there?

Seeing Glenda lives really close to her job, she’s there quite a bit, but usually not for long stretches of time. She pops in and out to get stuff a lot, and only spends full days there on Sundays, when she has no show. 

how messy is it?

Messy as fuck, but she can find order in the chaos. It’s not dirty, though, because Glenda hates cockroaches and all that jazz, but there’s definitely a lot of clothes, books and LP’s spread around her floor.

do they have house elves?

ironically, she’s not born on a day where the world rages or storms to match her spirit, but on a calm summer morning when everything is pristine and fragile. glenda is everything but that, even at a young age: she’s loud and passionate and brash, so much more similar to a hurricane than a quiet summer day.

her mother leaves when she is three. glenda and her younger sister are left with their dad, who’s wonderful – yes – but a brokenhearted and absent one. after all, there are too many bills to pay in order for him to look after his little girls, and he spends more time at his job than with them. daisy, her sister, and glenda see little of him and learn how to be independent at a young age, learn how to deal with neighbours who are forced to keep an eye on them and family members who let them run around their house. they don’t resent their dad, know that he’s working this hard for them.

and so glenda grows up, without a mother and with an absent father. she lives in a bad neighbourhood, one where crime and racism and poverty and drugs are all around, where unhappiness is the norm. she learns here that she cannot be fragile. her grief about her mother leaving turns into anger, her sadness about not seeing her dad as much as she wants to, into acceptance. she becomes independent, learns how to look after herself, how to wield her emotions into tools rather than weaknesses, how to walk those dangerous streets without getting into trouble. she curls her back with pride and locks her fears away.

strange things happen, though, as they tend to with muggleborns. she laughs about them, thinks them part of her hectic every day life, rather than something that’s actually serious. but then, when she turns eleven on the 23rd of july she learns the truth. glenda chittock is not only a scholar who gets in more trouble than is good, is not only someone who minds little when her knees get dirty or scabbed, not only someone who once stole a Rolling Stones cassette tape that she hides in her pillow, but she is also a WITCH. when she finds out, her first reaction was to laugh, but she knows it’s true when her laugh dies out and things turned quiet.

she leaves for hogwarts a little over a month later and cries when she says goodbye to her sister. sorted into ravenclaw for her streetsmart ways and creative potential, glenda flourishes. she finds skills in things she never expected herself to be good at — herbology, for example, soon becomes her favourite subject — and she even joins the quidditch team in her fifth year.

glenda grows passionate about human rights as she gets older, too; she reads about house elves, so-called ‘half-breeds’ and muggle discrimination at hogwarts and about environmentalism, racism, sexism and queerphobia in the library at home ( a place she hadn’t stepped foot in before she turned fourteen ). she comes out of the closet as gay, becomes a vegetarian and starts to form her own ideals, her own thoughts and views.

glenda gains a job at the wireless wizarding network when she gets out of hogwarts, where she soon ends up talking on the air. her fast mouth and quick wit make her suitable for radio, where it’s only your voice that leads. while a war rages around her, she speaks her mind on the radio and creates a career path for herself that’s more successful than she had ever expected.

after just a little under two years, glenda becomes the host of her own show — she’s young, they say, carries the voice of a future generation, and she beams with pride the first time she introduces witching hour: a place where music (mostly by female artists) meets feminism. she talks to important women in their community on air, about developments for women all over the world and just makes it a little hour five days a week for witches. young and old and of any blood status — it’s her little hour on the air she gets to fill and she Loves it!

does get some really nasty shit for being on the air and being Outspoken and being a muggleborn and jfc the first time she received a threat it rly fucked with her and i do hc that she has been Threatened in real life before bc this is a shit economy to be a muggleborn bub in and glenda is basically yelling it on the air she’s?? ? got some nasty memories of it. she lives to piss off the haters now tho but it messes w her sometimes.

besides her work, glenda has become increasingly interested in human rights. as a pacifist and someone who does not believe in violence and fighting it with more, she has not joined any rebellion groups, even if she fully support their cause. no, glenda wants to play her own role in this war, and in a way that suits her ideals. (not that she’s been asked by the order, to be honest; glenda’s just … not made for war. she’s not good at dueling, is better for standing on the side where she stands now: making smaller changes in ways that fit her.)

another reason why she wont fight links back to where she came from. glenda grew up taking care of herself, making sure not to get in any trouble in a neighbourhood where trouble was everywhere. she learned survival skills and she learned that sometimes, yeah, you gotta be selfish. she’s scared to death of dying and really Doesn’t want to, and so feels better just Not Doing much more than throwing shade shade to death eaters on air and being unapologetic 

like i said, she has become unapologetic: she is half black, she is a muggleborn, she is queer and she will fight anyone who does not approve. she has taken it upon herself to learn and speak about human rights, as now is the time to speak up. glenda chittock is a STORM, someone who is loud and impossible to ignore and she will stop at nothing to see her goal reached.

personality & rambling !

glenda is a little hippie, alternative bean who loves talking about everything!!!! just a loudmouth, tbh, who can talk endlessly about anything that intrigues her even a little. cares a lot about a lot, but is also v self-serving so sometimes she compromises her ideal to stay safe. which, i mean, in this economy? not the dumbest thing to do.

loves all kinds of music. donna summer and  diana ross are Icons, but she also loves joan jett and debbie harry and just!!! everything!! jsut really into this generations’ music and has been Five ever.

loves her job. loves being recognised for her job!!! is a household name i imagine, as she’s on the air at least 5 hours a week for witching hour, and then for some other programs as well if someone is needed.

likes plants a lot. this includes weed.
