Hi daily reminder to witches:
A cord cutting ritual involves CUTTING the cord, both a physical representation of the cord and energetically.
A cord cutting ritual DOES NOT involve candles, tying a string around said candles to burn the string, or dressing candles up with extremely unsafe amounts of herbs, oils and Gods know what else.
Please try to avoid “social media witchcraft”: they be doing things wrong in order to get more engagement. Cutting an energetic tie isn’t much to look at so, social media witches decided what’s cooler than candles and lots of herbs and crystals around?

What is Ostara?
Ostara is a lesser sabbat that marks the official arrival of spring and takes place on the spring equinox, around March 20-21 in the Northern Hemisphere and September 20-23 in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s the moment when day and night are of equal length, symbolizing balance before the days begin to grow longer and light overcomes darkness. This is a time of renewal, fertility, and new beginnings, making it perfect for fresh starts and setting intentions for the season ahead.

The Legend of Ostara
According to a legend, Ostara is celebrated in honor of the Germanic goddess of the dawn and spring. The story goes that she once found a bird injured by the cold of winter. To save it, she transformed it into a hare, but the hare retained its ability to lay eggs. As a sign of gratitude, the hare painted and gifted eggs to the goddess, which is why eggs remain a central symbol of Ostara today. (1883, H. Krebs)

Goddess Eostre
Eostre, also known as Ostara, is the Germanic goddess of spring, fertility, and renewal. Her name is linked to the word "east" and the rising dawn, and some believe it means "Radiant Dawn." Eostre represents the spirit of spring and the return of fertility to the earth. Her arrival was traditionally celebrated with flowers, singing, bell ringing, and the lighting of new fires at dawn. She is often described as a beautiful young woman with flowers woven into her hair, accompanied by her consort and also her sacred animal, a hare. Sometimes he appears as a full-grown man, other times as a small rabbit cradled in her arms. Together, they bring eggs, a powerful symbol of the earth’s rebirth and fertility.
There isn’t much information about Eostre, but she is mentioned in the writings of an 8th-century monk, Venerable Bede. He recorded that the pagan Anglo-Saxons of medieval Northumbria held festivals in her honor during the month of April. Other than this, we don’t know much about how she was worshiped in ancient times. However, by the 19th century, she had become an important figure in German folklore, appearing in literature, paintings, and stories. She is often depicted as a youthful maiden adorned with flowers, symbolizing nature’s renewal after winter.
Some ancient festivals are said to have honored her with offerings of flowers, eggs, and feasts, welcoming the warmth and life she brings. Venerable Bede documented these traditions around the year 700 CE while traveling through Europe, recording pagan customs for the Catholic Church. The Church later attempted to shift the focus from Eostre to the resurrection of Jesus, but many ancient traditions remained deeply rooted. Eventually, instead of trying to erase them, the Church adapted and merged the two celebrations, renaming their spring festival “Easter” as a way to unite both traditions.

The Symbolism of The Painted Eggs
Eggs have long been a symbol of fertility, renewal, and the emergence of new life. Many cultures have used painted eggs in their spring festivals, from ancient Egyptians and Persians to European pagans. In the context of Ostara, eggs represent the potential for new beginnings and the fertility of the land as it awakens from winter. Decorating eggs is a tradition that has continued for centuries, carrying the magic of transformation and the blessings of abundance for the coming season.

Ostara is in only 4 days I'm so excited 🌼🌿🌸🐇
Shadow work: Medusa is associated with female trauma (specifically sexual assault) and thus she is a wonderful goddess to work on your trauma with.
Donate to women’s shelters: Her primary focus is on supporting & protecting women. Try donating something in her honor.
Work on unlearning passivity & femininity: Medusa is a dark goddess who is against things like beauty culture and enforced femininity. Honor her by not wearing makeup and not shaving, and work with her to unlearn submissive habits that patriarchy forced upon you.
Work on accepting & channeling your anger: She is commonly known as a goddess of female rage, considered the patron saint of the #metoo movement and the female rage that resulted from it. She will nurture and encourage your anger. She will teach you how to focus it.
Research venoms & poisons: Any Medusan witch worth her salt knows at least a little bit about these things. As a serpentine goddess, she is highly knowledgeable about venoms and poisons. As a witch, you should be too - even if just to know what herbs aren’t safe to eat!
Embrace your feral side: Medusa is a goddess of untamed wildness. She is not a ‘civilized’ goddess like Athena or Aphrodite; she is more akin to Artemis in that she is attuned with the wild things. Allow yourself to embrace your own wildness and let her teach you how to let go and be yourself.
Get involved with activism & women’s rights: Donate menstrual products to a women’s shelter, attend a protest, do whatever is feasible to stand up for women’s rights in your daily life.
Make defending women a habit: Stick up for women in your daily life. Don’t let men interrupt a woman at work, make sure they’re safe, call out misogyny when you see it. Get angry. Be loud. Be a witch that Medusa would be proud of.
Research menstrual magic: Medusa is also associated with menstruation. Many menstrual myths have similarities with her - for example, being looked at by a menstruating woman was said to turn a man to stone.
Make a menstrual altar and leave offerings for her during your period: She will help ease your pain during your period and your magic will also be enhanced during this time.
Do research on cursework: Medusa is a very curse-friendly goddess. She believes in justice and righteous vengeance. She will protect you during curses and will enact revenge for you. She is a goddess willing to get dirty. She will stand up to your enemies and will shelter you.
Learn self-defense: Getting stronger and learning how to defend yourself physically is something that will empower you. She will support you through this process and you will ultimately feel safer knowing you are able to protect yourself.
Don’t be afraid to be gross, sweaty, loud, angry, hairy: Embrace your full self, even the ‘gross’ things that are typically just for boys and men. Allow yourself to take up space that is typically not for you; allow yourself to be unfeminine. You are powerful and you are worthy. You do not need to be pretty.
There are many more things a Medusan devotee could do to bond with her; these are just some suggestions. If you have any ideas, feel free to leave them in the comments!

Polytheism Hot Take:
We need to normalize fear of the Gods. It is a fact that historically, people offered and sacrificed to the gods not only for favors and good things-- but for protection... from their power. The Gods were and are still forces of nature. They ARE nature. Nature is scary! It's terrifying and dangerous to us! The Gods are not wrathful or malevolent, but they can destroy just as they create. Apollon was not just a god of song, poetry and healing-- he was a god of plague. A god of pestilence. A god of disease. That's something not a lot of people address or touch on and I think we're doing ourselves a disservice by not doing so. Fear of the Gods is not a bad thing or something we're not allowed to enagage in. We don't fear them out of some worry that we'll end up burning in hellfire for NOT doing so, but because they are literally nature itself.
fairy glen, scotland
Too many people who are interested in Dionysus worry that he'll reject them if they aren't some flavour of alcoholic, so I say this gently:
PLEASE RESEARCH HIM
Dionysus is so much more than a drunkard wine god who requires your inebriation (he isn't and he doesn't). He's a god of the oppressed, of insanity, of liberation, of death and rebirth, of fertility, and yes, of wine
Dionysus is violence, love, the calm before the storm and the rage within one, the breath before you scream and your roar of victory, communion, ecstasy, dance, utter stillness, anger, joy...
And he will love you no matter what
