Hey all, do any of you want to submit a little paragraph or a few sentences about your thoughts on the Susun Weed situation?  I’m maybe going to write something about it and could use more points of view. In a nutshell, Susun Weed, who was/is seen by many as a leader in the herbalist community, was arrested for choking one of her students on July 3rd, 2018.  I want to hear what you think about the whole thing. basically, listen to the podcast linked below and add your thoughts. Personally, I liked Susun’s youtube videos, but I started listening to her podcast a while ago, and her tone just rubs me the wrong way. It was one episode in particular where someone who was eating a restricted diet (could have been vegan or veggie, or a gluten free diet) called in and Susun got realllllyyy snippy and what I would call rude about it. Her daughter, Justine, who runs the phones on her show had to step in and tell Susun that she was being short. I’m not vegan, and I don’t agree with vegan ideals, but I would never be rude about someone’s lifestyle choices like that. I’ll find the link if i can. It also just doesn’t sit right with me that on her show, whenever someone asks about the safety of herbs or something similar, her info is anecdotal. She’ll say something about how her and her family have been taking this herb every day for a decade so of course it’s safe. Like.. that’s not good. That’s not how you teach safe herbalism.  I know that there are people who thrive under a ‘boot camp’ style teaching regime. So maybe her students are told what they should expect and what is expected of them before they start. But from the sounds of it, this person (who was choked) did not consent to this teaching style, and there are many others who’s said the same thing.
