i hate that diet culture means all the tasty drinks everywhere are loaded with stevia now. this isn't even a stance about health, I just think it tastes so fucking bad

Horses can get rabies and it is one of the scariest things you can ever see (do not look it up) and it is extremely rare but seems to be getting more and more common as rabies control methods are being defunded and neglectful horse owners are not vaccinating their horses. 13 people and 4 pets were exposed to a rabid horse in Aiken South Carolina this Tuesday. Under South Carolina state law, dogs, cats and ferrets must be vaccinated against rabies but not horses. This is a very scary and very sad situation but that last line got me curious about rabies vaccination laws and I am horrified to see that there are some states that have no rabies vaccination mandates. In Vermont it is only dogs and wolves. In Michigan only dogs and ferrets must be vaccinated under the law, no mention of cats. How many rabid ferret incidents did there have to be for ferrets to be written into the legal codes of all these states but not cats? Is it a remnant from when ferrets were mostly hunting animals and spent a lot of time outdoors chasing other mammals?

Why are they terrifying? Like out of genuine curiosity?

They often have terrible neurological symptoms like aggressively attacking objects and people, gnashing their teeth until they bleed, seizures and head jerking. The disease presentation is extremely scary, like something out of a horror movie and they’re massive animals which makes it harder to contain and move them. It looks like one of the worst ways to die.

Scenes like this are great, because they go into religious horror without making the entire faith evil. Having a demon plainly state that the bishop is an arsehole and deserves hell is always a good plot, especially when the demon IS correct.
