WISE Teacher Spotlight-Kelly Gibson
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three daughters. If we arenât on the ball field then we are either at swim practice or gymnastics. Â I try to remind myself that even though always being on the go is hard now, it isnât going to last forever!
2. Â What is your favorite thing about teaching reproductive health?
My favorite thing about teaching reproductive health is knowing that the kids are getting correct information to make the important choices that they are faced with as they go through their young adult lives. Â They know that the classroom is a safe place for them to ask about real questions and concerns. Â That to me is a success because I want them the facts and to have access to what they need no matter the situation.
3. Â If you could have one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could only have one meal for the rest of my life I would want Olive Gardenâs salad and five cheese ziti.
4. Â What is the best thing about living in WV?
The best thing about living in West Virginia is that there is so much to do outdoors. Our state is absolutely beautiful, and there is constantly something to do or explore if you are willing to do so.Â
5. Â What other youth health issues are you passionate about?
I am also passionate about about teenage drug abuse and mental health issues in our youth. With our ever changing society there are many kids who are being brought up in terrible situations. Â Teenagers are dealing with much more in todayâs world than what they had to deal with 10, 20, or 50 years ago. It is important to me that they always know they have someone in their corner that will help them so that they donât become overwhelmed. Â
6. Â Whatâs the best part of your job?
The best part of my job are the relationships you can make that last a lifetime. Â I still keep up with a lot of my students and former coworkers. Â I love knowing how my former students are doing and watching them become successful adults.
