☀️How to make Sun Tea☀️
☀️Summer is almost here for us in the northern hemisphere! Although second to lemonade, ice tea is a refreshing beverage on the hottest days of the year and making sun tea is a very witchy and simple way to brew tea. Because sun tea is basically sun water, it is imbued with the magical properties of the sun. In addition, the type of tea you use can add magical properties as well.
☀️How does one make sun tea? ☀️
You only need a few things to create sun tea:
A Jar/ Pitcher with a lid
Tea (loose or bagged)
The Sun/ Sunny Location
The size of the jar you use will depend on how much tea you wish to make and affect how much tea you need. If you just want to make a glass for yourself, a regular mason jar will work. However, if you want to make a big batch to share or save, you will need a bigger jar. Alternatively, a large glass pitcher with a cover will also work.
Here are some ratios of tea to water:
Loose leaf tea
2 TSP of tea for 1 cup of water.
4 TSP of tea for 1 pint of water
2 TBSP of tea for 24 ounces of water.
2.5 TBSP of tea for 1 quart of water.
1/3 Cup of tea for ½ gallon of water.
½ Cups of tea for 1 gallon of water.
Bagged tea:
1 bag of tea for 1 cup of water.
2 bags of tea for 1 pint of water.
3 bags of tea for 24 ounces of water.
4 bags of tea for 1 quart of water.
8 bags of tea for ½ gallon of water.
16 bags of tea for 1 gallon of water.
Once you fill your jar/pitcher with water, simply put the appropriate amount of tea in the jar/pitcher. After that, close the jar/ pitcher and leave it in a sunny spot for about 3-5 hours. Once the tea is brewed, mix sugar or honey into the tea (if you want to) and then pour it over ice or chill it in the fridge for a refreshing summer drink.
The tea you use doesn’t really matter. I prefer brewing fruity teas using this method because they are very summery. However, any kind of tea will work. I am planning on making a peach sun tea for Litha and I am very excited about it.
You can also add fruit or herbs to brew with your tea. Fruits such as peaches and lemons and herbs such as mint work nicely in sun tea.
☀️Sun Tea’s Magical Properties☀️
Since sun tea is basically flavored sun water, what kind of magical properties does sun tea have?
Magical properties:
Confidence
Attention Grabbing
Grace
Courage
Excitement
Passion
Impulsiveness
Charisma
Extroversion
Strength
Creation
Again, you can add more magical properties through the tea you use, but these are the properties of sun water by itself.
Sun tea is a great summer beverage for any witch. It is especially great for solar witches or those who work with solar deities. It is also a great treat to make for Litha.
I hope y’all find these instructions helpful and are inspired to make some sun tea yourselves this summer.
