The tune of recognition in the stranger’s voice draws him forward by two lengthy strides as their head turns to glimpse him once more.

“That I am,” is the low, steady answer cutting through the castle’s eerie quiet. “I am Trevor of House Belmont. And what am I to call you, sir?”

“I would expect nothing else from a man of House Belmont.” How fortuitous that Miklós would run into a Belmont again. It brings a small smile to his face. Time really does repeat itself. He taps his finger against the top of the table again, inhaling deeply through his nose so that he might remember the smell of this blood. He wants to etch it into his memory.

“I was named Miklós. I have no family name to give.” Miklós replies, hands moving to straighten out the fabric that rests over his shoulders. It’s a spot of brilliant yellow in such a dreary place. His smile grows even wider as he speaks again.

Finally, he speaks. “When I was young, I had a friend named Lyudmil. He was mortally injured by those who sought to control me. I turned him, and then he vanished from my life.”

“You have to understand that I was a little girl. I... after Dracula was defeated in 1999, my family thought that I’d have a chance to live a normal life and tried to give it to me. The prophecy about his return hadn’t been discovered yet. And then it was, and suddenly everything was changing and I didn’t want it to. I blabbed to the friends I’d made at school about everything and they decided they wanted to be hunters do. It made me so happy, I was afraid of losing them.”

Another sigh, this time she looks pointedly at the speaker. “I was stupid and decided to go on my own secret mission with them. We got attacked by monsters I hadn’t noticed and they were killed because I hadn’t taken things seriously and thought this was something I could just bring normal people into.”

“I don’t exactly have a lot of physically taxing hobbies.” Miklós starts, scratching at his cheek a little. “I have to exercise a lot to keep myself healthy. My blood gets so thick that it could clot and kill me if I don’t have a strong heart. I don’t always enjoy it, though. It’s something that I have to do, not something that I want to do.”
