Here's a Lloyd Wright (Frank's son) fixer-upper. The Derby House in Glendale, CA is a 1926 landmark. It's not the typical Wright house, it's a rare early example of hand-cast concrete block in the Mayan Revival style. Many of the original features are still intact and the 5bd, 3ba, 3,281sqft home may be a fixer-upper, but it's not cheap, priced at $2.495m.
How it looked back in the day. With this house, it's all in the intricate details. The custom stonework is influenced by Navajo textile patterns.
Someone has already started. The floors were either stripped or sanded. The walls have been removed down to the studs. But, look at the studs- they're finished wood.

Details of the doors. All of the metal work and railings are original, and the design mimics the agave plant.
The diagonal mezzanine is a spectacular feature that was designed into the house at the time. I know that it wouldn't be original, but I like the way the stripped wood facade on the mezzanine looks.
Apparently, the ceiling was blue, originally. Look at that fireplace going up thru the mezzanine.
From up here, you can see that it's just a narrow diagonal architectural feature. Note how the rail of the mezzanine matches the ceiling molding.
The details are so unusual. I wonder how much the house will be worth when it's restored. This fireplace is magnificent.

The walls in this room have been stripped back, but the floor remains. Note the thin strips of inlaid wood. There's a long recessed window seat. They also left some cool green ceramic pots.
This is the dining room. They tore that wall apart, but I wonder if they saved the built-in.
By the white moldings in the ceiling we can see that this was the kitchen. So, they completely ripped it out. I like the cabinets, I wonder if they saved them
This is also finished. They've got the original lighting, and the doors look refinished.
This bedroom has a loft, which is nice.
Up here it's all new, also. I'm not so sure that I like the new doors.
See how the original door is darker? It looks like they've framed the original house plans, but I'm wondering if it's permanent.

And, this one was redone. What a great job they did. Love the tile they used. It's more modern and brighter, but perfect.
There's a beautiful patio on the 2nd level. 0.27 acre lot.

Obviously there can be more than one and this is not diminishing the others, this is just who you think stood out, and had the most scenes where the acting was just wow

truly the idea of "this scene is (un-)necessary to the story" is such a fundamentally uncurious and anti-art way of engaging with fiction. the story itself is unnecessary, in the sense that all art is unnecessary, because art is not a fucking optimization problem. that's the beauty of it
No but you see we need to efficiency and we need to optimal even when we're not working and we're just taking a breath to be human beings. That's what it's all about. Not feeling the wind on your face. Optimisation.
