If you ever needed more proof in how badly trans women are treated, give a trans girl a compliment. A lot of us struggle so hard with seeing ourselves as worthy of even anything as basic as a passing compliment. We spend every day being denigrated by people who have never met us, and after enough time it can get to you.

In a personal example, I’ve been struggling extra hard recently with my self worth and image. A lot of that comes from a feeling of being less than. My brain has a tendency to default at this point to things such as “your friends only pity you, they don’t really like you” or “you’re bot good enough to be loved.” A lot of the feelings behind these thoughts come from the transphobia we face every single day. Sometimes when you face transphobia every single day you start to unconsciously believe them.

But it’s not true. To every single trans person who might come across this, I love you, the world is a brighter place because you’re here.
