The story of homosexuality, acceptance, the huge black hole in your chest and how to get rid of it. (Read on your own risk. This post contains mentions of underage relationships, disfunctional family, religious abuse, homophobia, self harm and other parts of my biography. I don’t need your judgement. Thank you)
I wanted to write this post some time ago when one of my gay friend asked me how to get rid the feeling of emptiness. You know this as a black hole, a guilt issue, a low self esteem twisted with dependency and many other descriptions of this feeling. Somehow it’s very typical for lgbt folks who didn’t get acceptance in their family or had issues with identity; I know that it’s also easy to get this thing if your first romantic relationship didn’t work out well.
My want to write this post only grew when I fell in thorki fandom because the black hole is very obvious issue if you try to analyze mcu Loki (ask Tom Hiddleston, he will tell you everything).

Ch. 6: Warm, Safe Place
I’ve seen a lot of fanfic writers name their stories and chapters after song lyrics and so this little mama right here is gonna use that method bc she loves it. ;p I’ve also decided to name the story as a whole at the end bc @emilybrugh told me to and she’s not wrong. I’m so sorry about the past tense present tense switch, I wanted to write this story in past tense, but I can’t just seem to keep up with that so I’m going to present tense, plz don’t kill me. As usual, @haramzadii, @canineking, and now @aconacho, plz give me attention and validate my lesbians. Thanks. The song for this chapter is: Sweet Child O’ Mine – Guns N’ Roses
Friday is the last day of the week, meaning it’s also the last day that Isabelle has to torture herself and wake up in the morning. She opens her eyes on this particular Friday and wishes that crying in her sleep didn’t make her eyes so sore. The blaring alarm from her phone is giving her a massive headache, so she grabs for it in the bare light being shone into her room from the tiny window she has. By the time she’s turned off the alarm, it’s 9:08, and she’s positive trying to get in on time is absolutely necessary today if she wants some form of income in her life. She’s not a recluse who hides away in her shithole apartment holding her own personal pity party everyday, so by the time she’s dressed with her work clothes in a bag, it’s 9:10. It takes her about five minutes to deal with all her hygienic needs, and she’s out the door with her bike, phone, and… wait.
Where are her cigs?
She’s about to rush back into her apartment to retrieve them when her brain finally wakes up alongside her body and yesterday comes flooding back to her. So that’s what that horrific headache is. Remembering her knew life development has also brought back the new acquaintance she acquired yesterday. Her new friend makes her check her phone to make sure that she didn’t get any texts from said friend, and finds that she did, in fact, get some texts from her.

GOOD MORNING FRIENNNNNNDDDD!!!!!! HOPE DOLLAR GENERAL TREATS YOU WELL TODAY, HOPE YOU’RE NOT TOO LONELY WITHOUT ME ;PPPPP

Although the quirk of Isabelle’s lip was completely involuntary, she had made herself a promise, so she replied with:
To: Angie Pinoe
What’s good, how in the hell did you remember I worked at DG? want to meet up at the cafe you met me at yesterday?
Sent: 9:15
This was part of her routine, totally normal, she got ready, went to the cafe for about an hour, then biked to work. Despite Angie joining her, she wasn’t deviating from the norm in the slightest. Her life was based on habit anyways, a pretty little lady being added to that habit was fine. She was almost at the bottom of the stairs from her apartment with her bike, when she got another text.
From: Angie Pinoe
idk, why don’t you ask me?
Sent: 9:16
Now what in the hell does that mean? By the time she got to the bottom of the stairs, she was confused as hell, and then she looked up. There, at the bottom of the stairs with her purse slung over her shoulder, was a shining Angie. She must’ve had her work clothes on because her red long sleeved shirt – that had buttons but still somehow managed to show a lot of cleavage – and her tight fitting khakis, all topped off with plain black flats was not what Isabelle would’ve assumed as her usual ensemble.
Although the small trek down the stairs down the stairs did have her practically panting, this was a sight that’d make anyone feel better.
“Yeah, I’d totally love to get coffee with you before work on this disgusting morning!” Angie’s tone was happy and excited, but Isabelle could tell from her word choice that something wasn’t going the way that she had wanted it to that morning. It was pretty obvious.
“That’s great and all, but, did you not meet your dick quota last night? You sound pissy.” Maybe not the best way to attack the situation, but fuck it, she felt like she was gonna pass out anyways.
“Oh no the date was positively PHENOMENAL hun, it’s just that I haven’t had such a shitty hangover in years.” Oh yeah, she would switch to drinking while Angie went over to smoking. She guesses that has gotta suck ass on both ends. Hearing about the date plucked quite a few of her nerves, so she decided a smooth subject change would make everyone feel better.
“That’s shitty, now get that straight ass on this bike so we can get going.” With a giggle, Angie parked her ass right on the bar of Isabelle’s bike when she had gotten it ready to handle the new weight, and she rode in the direction of her favorite cafe along with the sounds of a hungover, giggling Angie.
Once they arrived at her usual cafe with her usual seat outside, the hopes of a beginning spring blowing against them as they made to sit down. Angie set her feet on the table and Angie crossed her legs in the least dainty way possible.
“Okay, I’ve never actually ordered anything from here, so what should I get?” Angie piped from her side of the small table, and Isabelle was wondering how she wasn’t making her own hangover worse with her natural volume.
“I do not fucking know anything, I honestly just take up space here everyday – here, look at this.” Isabelle lifted her hand to signal to a waitress, and as the waitress got closer, she passed by without a glance towards Isabelle. “See, they’re all so used to me wasting their time they stopped coming to make sure if I was ready to order anything,” Angie looked ready to start deflating, so Isabelle amended it by finishing, “But I’ve been here so many times I know one of the waitresses by name, hold up, I’ll call her over when I see her.” Angie looked overjoyed that she could drink some coffee with her, and the brightness of her smile almost made her squint. While looking at Angie smiling at everyone that passed or glanced at her, Isabelle realized that even though it was plenty contagious, she didn’t really…
feel it.
The feeling was on the outskirts of her reach, asking to be let in, but –
“Is that her?” Angie cut into Isabelle’s spiral, and she looked where Angie was pointing to see just the woman she was looking for.
She let her come a little closer after finishing taking someone’s order before speaking loudly enough to be heard, “Hey April, I need you for a minute!” April startled a little before turning to look at Isabelle and Angie, and then with a skeptical look, she slowly walked over to deal with whatever they needed.
“I can’t assist you if you brought me over just to introduce me to someone who seems capable of handling you, unlike everyone else here.” April pointedly looked at Isabelle, and she raised a brow at her as she told her:
“No, today my friend here says we want coffee, so that’s what’s gonna happen–unless the service here is really that bad.” The obvious sass in her voice was ignored by April who instead opted to write down two orders of regular coffee and lean into Angie’s ear.
She dramatically whispered “What did you do to get this walking human repellent to willingly talk to me?” Isabelle rolled her eyes while Angie burst out laughing.
“I’ve honestly got no idea, and I want my coffee black.” Angie beamed at April, and April smiled back. She was probably happy that I was here to actually give them money today.
Isabelle realized that she didn’t actually like coffee and told April that she’d actually prefer tea today, whatever one she thought best.
“Well isn’t that just great, your presence doesn’t make me want to kill myself, as this job is happy to do to me daily, so I’ll get that to you. Really, Isabelle, this little lady right here,” April tilted her head at Angie “Is just what you need in my opinion.” With a quick nod of her head, she walked inside the shop to get their orders.
“Are you good friends with April, because she talked to you like she’s known you since you popped out the womb.” Angie inquired.
Isabella answered with a shrug, “No, she’s just decided that if I’m gonna talk like an asshole, she will too.” Angie gave yet another giggle at that, and it made Isabelle give her own smile back.
Angie’s giggling dissipated as she looked across the table at Isabelle smiling, and something about her currently calculating gaze was making her smile fall. It was so minute that Isabelle almost didn’t notice, but Angie was leaning towards her with an expectant look on her face. It was almost like she expected Isabelle to take her feet from the table and lean in too.
‘Of course I’m not going to do that?’ Isabelle thought with a glance at the cafe for a saving grace. ‘She’s straight as this got damn seat, there’s no way that she’s doing what I think she is, and I’ve only known her for for a day!’ Isabelle was searching her own mind for something to say to end the silent tirade Angie was unknowingly throwing at Isabelle with the way she was leaning, fluttering her lashes, opening her mouth ever so slightly, and ma–
“All right ladies, one black coffee and one chai tea latte, here’s the check because I know Isabelle has a job to attend to in about 30 minutes with no time to wait.” April gingerly placed the ordered beverages down onto the table as Isabelle was shocked into reality, but Angie seemed to barely take heed of April and calmly shrugged her shoulders as she leaned back into her seat.
She felt like she was going into cardiac arrest.
“Enjoy your drinks and have a nice day.” April walked away with yet another nod, while Isabelle reached into her phone case to pull out her debit card, shaking her head to clear it. She glanced at Angie who seemed to be all rainbows, unicorns, and butterflies over there with her black coffee.
Isabelle lifted the chai latte to her lips and immediately decided that if this was April chose for her, she would trust her life. Angie looked at Isabelle and burst out laughing.
“Oh my God, did you just bust a nut over that tea? Give it to me, I have to compare it to my coffee now.” Angie was still laughing as Isabelle handed over her cup with a roll of her eyes, and just like that, all of her anxieties were gone. Angie murmured about how damn good this chai whatever it was was as Isabelle placed her debit card on the check, giving April a big tip to silently show her appreciation for the save. She checked her phone and realized that she actually did have to be at work in 30 minutes.
“All right, it’s been a blast, but I need to be at work soon, what about you?”
Angie checked her phone and gave her an affirming noise as she got up to head towards Isabelle’s bike.
“Slow down there race horse, we gotta get somebody to take our money!” Isabelle chuckled as Angie coyly sat down to wait for the waitress.
She wondered what Jadon could do for Angie that she couldn’t.
Isabelle dropped Angie off at Target, which just so happened to be conveniently close to Isabelle’s Dollar General, and Angie enthusiastically waved as Isabelle rode away. She walked into Target with Isabelle’s cinnamon skin and scar riddled face in her minds eye. Angie wasn’t about to start lying to herself, she was a woman who knew what she wanted and how she wanted it, but Isabelle seemed to confuse her. She was hot, it was unmistakable, but there was something different about this.
Angie knew what it was: she was absolutely attracted to Isabelle, attracted in a way that a straight woman wouldn’t be attracted to another woman. She’d never been with a woman before, though the idea wasn’t repulsive to her in the slightest. She’d just never really had the chance. Seeing Isabelle smile at her like that just lit something alight inside of her. There was, of course, one problem.
Jadon.
The date had really gone well–it’d gone amazing–and she was attracted to this man too. She wanted to go somewhere with Jadon, somewhere with what could be made while Isabelle was just… not there for it. She hadn’t even shown the slightest bit of interest in reciprocating when Angie was leaning to kiss her, except for a small crack in her impassive facade. Her eyes widening the slightest bit when she had first started to lean, so with that information stored in her minds files, she put her stuff in her work locker and went behind a cash register.
“Hey Angie!” Angie turned to see her work friend, Emily, Greeting her with a small smile.
“What’s good babe, today is the last day of the week, you doing anything this weekend? Got any men you going after? HMMMMMM???” Angie had been telling Emily for the past two weeks that the ailment for all of her problems and insecurities in life was some good dick. Duh.
“Oh my god, you really need to stop with that, we’re in the middle of the store, SHH!” Emily quickly and quietly shushed Angie up, as she’d been doing for the past two weeks, but Angie doesn’t understand the concept of being shy. She was about to start her lecture on the wonderful healing powers of some good sex when her manager came booming into the conversation.
“I hope you’re feeling better today than you were yesterday Angie! We need you healthy enough to make up for the solid hour you miss nearly every day!”Angie had no idea what her manager was talking about for a whole minute and a half until the absolute debauchery she’d committed by lying came back to her. It wasn’t that bad, per se, but she’s never really had to lie to get what she wanted. People tend to say yes to her, so being sly and slinking around people wasn’t her forte.
“Oh yeah, I feel great… absolutely peachy. I’m ready to get paid!” Emily laughed as she walked away while her manager just shook their head and walked away. Honesty seemed to be a bitch, but really, she just didn’t know how to lie. Emily continued to talk to her from the register she was situated at, waiting for anyone to come in on this especially dry day.
Isabelle was barely in the door before she was loathing being there. This place was such a shithole, and people always gave her stank side eyes when they saw her scars. People just don’t know how to mind their own damn business. She made a beeline for the bathroom and changed as quickly as she could to get out of that disgusting bathroom.
Seeing as no one was in that godforsaken store, she went to organize some shelves, or at least try to look like she was working. When her boss said that her work was doubled, all they really meant was that one of her coworkers would be watching her more than necessary to report to the boss how much she was getting done. So as she got into the alcohol section, she set a couple of misplaced ones back in their spot. As she was placing a bottle of Jack Daniels with the rest, one of her least favorite (not really, she just gets frustrated because she’s completely forgotten how to communicate with people) coworkers comes up to her.
“How you doing, Isabelle? Not in the talking mood again? That’s understandable and not at all surprising.” Even though Matt sounded as done with this job as she was, she knew that he was actually trying to be a good employee and coworker. The problem was, he was succeeding and Isabelle had no idea how to deal with that.
As Matt grabbed a a bottle of Fireball to put back in it’s place, Isabelle decided her usual personality would be okay for this situation and simply stated “You’re too respectable and I don’t know how to deal with that. Do you actually want to speak to me or are you just being respectable?” Matt turned to look at Isabelle as if she was insane, and then cleared his throat, blinking a couple of times to gather his composure before replying:
“Oh, um, yeah I do just want to, um, talk to you, I mean, if we’re gonna suffer here might as well find someone to, um, like, suffer with, you know?” Isabelle realized while he was stuttering and tripping over his own tongue that she had successfully and unintentionally made him incredibly uncomfortable. Whatever, she’d gotten somewhere, so now she had to take the next step. Why she was doing this was beyond her, but she was going to do it with conviction anyways.
“I’m doing good, how’re you?” The words sounded a bit foreign in her mouth, but she pushed on. Human interaction didn’t use to be this painful until she decided keeping her social meter in healthy levels didn’t matter as long as she felt, or didn’t feel, like this.
“Oh,” an unhealthy amount of nervous chuckling “Yeah, I’m doing as good as I can be. So… you gonna take a smoke break soon?” Isabelle wasn’t offended by the insinuation, but the anxiety was radiating off of him in waves, and he was scrabbling to explain himself. This poor boy.
“Not today. Not for the rest of the week if I can make it through the withdrawal symptoms without killing someone.” Isabelle turned to smirk at Matt, enjoying having someone to organize multiple types of liquor with a nice feeling. Matt smiled back, his previous hesitation leaving him the more it left Isabelle. This could be a good thing.
“That’s good, at least you’ve got new things going on in your life,” He sighs out a very self deprecating chuckle, “Why you quitting? Besides the not wanting to get lung cancer thing,”
Isabelle bit her lip and looked Matt directly in the eye as she started to walk to the candy aisle, “It’s a good story, stick around to hear it after this commercial break. Boss said me faking being sick yesterday gave me double work so I got shit to do my guy.” Isabelle turned around completely to organize bullshit in the candy aisle.
Matt started to quickly pitter patter his way behind Isabelle while he called after her “I’ll help you out, now entertain my work hours with your story!”
“You know, you really have to tell me when you go to take a drink today, because I can’t cover you if I’m not prepared to do it.” Emily complained to Angie as she loaded someone’s bags and wished them a nice day behind the cash register.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about, and I’m not going for a drink today anyways so HA!” Angie would’ve ended her sentence by saying she was going for a smoke break instead if it weren’t for the fact that she actually loved her throat and vocal cords too much to harass them like that. She didn’t really think about that when she’d called for the switch. Oh well.
“What?! You haven’t not taken a red wine break since the day I met you! You finally quit, huh? Good for you! Any specific reason why?”
She felt her natural smile grow into a nearly manic grin at the possible mention of her newest best friend, Isabelle. God, she was such an interesting being who wouldn’t be excited to talk about her, so she rapidly exclaimed “Oh honey, HONEY, let mama tell you about her ‘sick day’ yesterday!” Just as she was about to go into all of the juicy details about Isabelle, another customer came up to the register to be checked out. Angie turned away with a wink filled with a promise to tell her all about it.
So cute
