Bruce got up early that day. He didnât follow the news much, but the application on his phone said something about negative degrees as he peeked on it, still lying in bed. Wasnât it ⌠June?
Well, this was Metro City.
For once, Bruce cheered for the sun to set and his hero shift to start - in the meanwhile, he made calls and set up preparations. First of all, no one expected this to happen, but he and the people of Metro City had seen worse weirdness than that. Most had changed to winter clothing by the time it got dark. That was, for those who changes. Most of those in a position lucky enough to have a home and warm blankets were beneath those by now, but others were still out for various reasons - the worst not knowing of a warm place to go to.
Wrapped in a wide black coat, Bruce, as well as some of Metro Cityâs organizations, covered the less lucky ones. Bat-shaped pocket heaters went around, blankets, cans with warm cocoa, coats ⌠and most important: sweets.
When it was a cold day in Metro, they might as well get back to the Christmas spirit, as Bruce found. And what was better than to spend a cold day with people - strangers or not. What gloves that could be found were soon gone, and even he had no endless supplies at the end of the day. Plan B was to set up some tons, throw burning material in them ⌠and there you go. Small campfires. Still, a bit uncharmingâŚÂ
âMiss?â he called a bystander close, a woman with long dark brown hair, approaching with a camera. He didnât mind to talk to strangers - as long as he was in duty. Even less to less pregnant ones, who might need a snack. âHave thisâ he decided, not accepting a no, still with some sticks left and marshmallows, too. She didnât look like one who would need it⌠but some kindness was something anyone could use. Besides, he wasnât alone ⌠some more tons were set up everywhere, people gathering around them, supplied with food and something to drink. One could think this was some festivityâŚ
âAnd you!â Bruce called someone else that passed, not shortly after. Poor guyâs hands were so cold, he could barely hear a pulse there⌠if at all. He had to insist with this one, so he left the bag with supplies with the woman before and stepped up to the black haired man.Â
âI help you. Youâd like something to eat?â he asked friendly, holding up the stick with the marshmallow on it. âCome and join.â Poor guy had some scars across his face, but that didnât stop Bruce to herd him to the woman. He just hoped they got along.
Suddenly this man who looked terrifyingly like some other creature comes up to him with a stick and a white figure sticking out of it. Thatâs not what you expect from a stroll down a dark alleyway. He wasnât sure how to react but he didnât feel threatened in any way by the man giving a sincere smile and offered some sort of treat. He grabbed on to the stick, but before he could examined what was that on the tip of it. Without warning he was grabbed by the arm and lead some distance toward some fire sight and was set in front of this lady. A lady he actually found familiarâŚ
She had been here long enough to simply go with the flow ( her breath slipping past her lips in order to cool a browned marshmallow she had bronzed to perfection ), Katelynn now spending time in front of a warm fire on a rare snowy day in the summer with a man in a cape.
The abnormal weather pattern was perhaps not so abnormal and the mother-to-be gazed at the falling flakes with naked concern for the women that might have gifted everyone with such an event. She had to seek her out later, to see if she was doing all right.
In fact, it was what she had been about to do - taking interesting pictures along the way in order to add them to her portfolio - when she was stopped by the aforementioned individual and given a marshmallow on a stick. With the burning drum of trash nearby casting a flickering and gentle glow before them, she understood what he wished for her to do. And she accepted it gratefully, even with a bit of giddiness as she had not done such a thing since before her grandparentâs passing.
---It reminded her so much of their camping trip...
âI help you. Youâd like something to eat? Come and join.â
Curiosity over the newcomer tilted her head, brown eyes widening at the visitor while a spark of relief washed over her ( and what a strange feeling it was, surprised as she was to see him. )
âAh, yo--you...youâre ok-o-oku-okay!â she managed to get out, marshmallow forgotten at her side.
