I grew up camping in Australia, and now that I'm a mum myself, I want to give my kids the same meaningful experiences I had growing up. Five years ago, my husband and I took our kids on a seven-month trip up the coast to the tip top of Australia. Car Trips Melbourne - Australia is finally all open. It seems many more Aussie families are on the road more, taking these past few years as a pull to get out when they can, and travel our beautiful country. I know a few will be itching to get away.                                      

Our kids are quite accustomed to a Car Trip, living in The Basin, it’s often a drive to most places. And then we are usually filling out “off” weekends with trips away camping. I often get asked how my kids go in the car, and how we keep them occupied.

When I was younger we lived rural for a few years, which meant plenty of car trips back to Melbourne to visit family. I vividly remember plenty of sing alongs 🎤 and car games. So many car games.. and snacks. Can’t forget the snacks.

So I figured here I would provide some fun games for your family to help you with your journeys this year!

- Alphabet game -

Choose a topic. Ie. food. Player one says a word for example, grapes. The next player then uses the last letter from this word to start their answer, and so forth, until no one can think of another word.

- 20 questions -

One player chooses and object, mineral or animal. The rest of the car can only use 20 questions to work out what they are.

- 2 truths 1 lie -

One player makes up two truths and one lie. The rest of the car decide what they think is correct.

- category game -

Decide a category/ subject. Decide a time limit. And see how many words you can think of in the time limit.

We often ask each other questions to keep the kids entertained. These can be as silly or as entertaining as you can make them. I mean who doesn’t love a silly question to get the mood up again.

If you had a million dollars what would you do with it?

What kind of house would you love to live in? What would be interesting about it?

If you had a genie what would your 3 wishes be?

If you had a super power, what would it be and why?

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? And why?

Silicone is a durable material, comprising mostly silica (found in sand and quartz), which is a readily available and environmentally friendly resource and makes it a much more desirable material to make our beach toys from.

It can be manipulated and will bounce straight back to the original shape, which is great for packing up and safe in little hands.

~Recycle~ Did you know you can recycle the foil from your Easter eggs? Scrunch it up and pop it in your recycle bin. Another option is encourage your children to open their eggs without ripping the foil, not only a fun competition, but there are loads of fun art and craft activities you can make with the foil (think beautiful mermaid tails or fish scales).                      

Hot cross buns are delicious and a firm favourite in our family, make sure you are recycling the bags at your local supermarket.

Here we meet Courtney, a Mornington Peninsula mum of 3 plus one fur baby. She loves keeping busy by spending her time at the beach, doing pilates, volunteering on the school and kinder committees, running the family business and going on adventures with her kids. In 2017, Courtney and her husband took their kids on a 7 month road trip up the east coast of Australia. Courtney was in awe of Australia's beauty and her dream is to encourage others to explore the wonders we have at our doorstep.

Then there is, Joey an Early Childhood and Primary School Educator, extremely passionate about unstructured play-based learning and engaging children in nature-play. Living at the base of the Dandenong Ranges, you will often find Joey utilising her surroundings and enjoying the outdoors when playing with her three kids, hiking, travelling and exploring all that nature has to offer.

Wild and Wandering is two mums, six kids and two super supportive electrician husbands (What are the chances). Courtney and Joey met through a mutual friend when they first entered parenthood almost 7 years ago. Their friendship flourished and they have spoken almost daily since. They have seen each other through all life has thrown at them.

Creating a business was something Courtney and Joey had always discussed but they never knew exactly what it was that they wanted, until one day their interests and passions organically crossed paths, leading them to the beginning of "Our Story".
