okay apologies in advance for redditposting on main, but i've been rewatching old rick and morty episodes while knitting after work lately, and it will never not blow my mind that this reddit dudebro-ass show features an explicitly queer protagonist. like yeah the earlier seasons have jokes about him fucking anything that moves, which in turn *technically* makes him bisexual (while still framing bisexuailty itself as part of the joke in a way), but then theres an episode where the entire premise is him nearly dying to save a man he loves, who he explicitly *says* he loves multiple times on screen, and that male love interest is probably the second most important and consistent non-familial relationship he has in the series (second only to his dead wife). idk. i think thats neat. really wasn't something i expected from reddit: the show
i still can't believe how much it ended up being seen as a reddit dudebro-ass show when every season it makes it more and more clear that the writers kind of hate that part of the fanbase and work to distance themselves from it
