you’ve never noticed me before, but you’ve been there for every phase of my life beginning with pre-k. it’s absolutely crazy to me that a five year old who just wanted curly hair like yours grew into an eighteen year old who will be graduating high school on may 21st with you having been there every single step of the way. i have hEDS (hypermobile ehlors-danlos), and i got diagnosed right before my junior year. i would be lying if i said it didn’t make me sad. i didn’t tell anyone for a while because i was scared of the stigma. then the end of junior year came, and my diagnosis got the best of me. my knee messed up and i wasn’t able to play my senior season of softball. when that happened, i felt lost. half of my personality was built around softball and knowing that i would never get a proper last game hit me hard. my second hobby had always been music and theatre, so i turned to those things to keep me busy. i wrote more songs than i ever had, listened to your music constantly (thank you for releasing lover when you did), learned ukulele, and played piano any chance i could get. now it’s march 27th, and tonight i should be getting ready for my last opening night for my spring musical. instead, i’m at home, and i’m not sure if i’ll get to perform on my high school stage ever again. once again i’ve been writing more than i ever did before, playing ukulele like crazy, and of course listening to you. thank you for always being there every step of the way. growing up is hard and it feels suffocating right now, but i take great comfort in knowing that no matter what leaves me, you never will. yanno, i had the time of my life fighting dragons with you and all that <3
