Bolmarcich argues that all other instances of the word ὁμοφροσύνη (homophrosyne) in Homer refer to cooperative male/male relationships or alliances. So using the word to allude to Odysseus and Penelope's marriage is unusual, and suggests that Penelope has been assimilated into this male language/world. This is an ironic finding for me, because I've only ever heard the word ὁμοφροσύνη in conversations about ancient marital values. But I can't say I'm surprised, as ancient and medieval literature often imagines that "good" women have masculine spirits.
