“If we are becoming a more enlightened society, Zachari challenged, why do Black bodies remain sacrifices at the altar of the American Dream?” -Faithful
I like how this quote shows how racism is just an example of how we are still uncivilized as a nation
If you ask around in Ferguson, you get a slightly different story
John Oliver (via acrawf12)
this is a typical tactic of bias news reporting. The conservatives found people who said race relations were great and the liberals found people to say to extreme opposite. You can only assume the truth is somewhere in the middle
Dear white people. You know what? Nevermind
Dear White People (via trevore206)I
I like this quote because I feel like it summed up everyones feelings at the end of the movie (and the end of the election)
“Low Standards for Whites. That’s What’s killing us.”
“Nothing has kept us safe. Why? Because these problems are not caused by OUR choices. The murderous conditions under which we live are not of our own making; they white-authored. Whites insisted that the practices supporting whiteness would not just support whiteness but also do everything imaginable to rob everyone else of life chances.”
-Koritha Mitchell
This is a very interesting claim by Mitchell. It’s hard not to agree to her point mainly because there is a lot of truth to it. Minorities make up a very small percentage of the Senate. As policy makers, minorities have far less ability to affect change that would allow progress with the goal of equality in mind.
I think that although the belief that minorities have little potential to change the marginalization of their group it is a saddening thought, what Mitchell is really trying to say here is that white people need to step up to the plate, take responsibility, educate themselves on the experiences of minorities, and use their privilege to change the current situation America finds herself in.
I really like this quote and the responses as well. Whites need to be the ones who see this issue and be there for the minorities. Change can only come through unity.
This is an interesting quote by Mitchell and insightful comments by everyone. I would like to point out that it can be useless at times to try to appeal to moral compass of those in leadership roles. Instead of trying to change how the current leaders work I think people need to organize and protest until the leaders pushing unjust policies are pushed out.

There are so many problems today What has #America become? Where has the #American Dream gone? When did we get so #racist? When did we get so #homophobic? When did we get so #sexist? When did we stop being great? Were we ever great? There are dead children in the streets Mothers crying at home for a son who will never return Cops being paid leave for the injustice the committed #police brutality is only getting worse Things are not looking up Interests such as the #alt right and #white nationalist now hold the white house People are scared What do we do? #protest #peaceful protest #march #activism #I have a dream that one day All people will be treated equal In this never great country of ours
America-Ginsberg
“America this is quite serious. America this is the impression I get from looking in the television set. America is this correct?”
I felt like this was a very relevant quote right now with Trump’s recent criticism of the media. Is the media for the people, the very rich, or just for themselves?
The mayor cannot say there had never been a sense of racial tension here because that sentence has not been true anywhere on this earth.
John Oliver (via trevore206)
I like this quote because it is simply so obvious and its silly that the mayor ever tried to make the claim in the first place
“On Saturday, August 9, 2014, at 12:03 p.m., an unarmed black teenager named Michael Brown was fatally shot by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, a small town on the outskirts of St. Louis”
-bonilla and rosa
“Young boy, hustlin' Tryna get the wheels in motion But he can be anything at all In America, America “

“Were absolutely famous for it. presumably that is why I, the mayor of ferguson am currently on national fucking television. presumably we are talking about how well our town is getting along right now”
-john oliver
‘ If there were a right way to protest, the brutality would’ve ended long ago because black and brown people have tried literally every strategy, whether it’s accommodation and assimilation or separatism“
-Mitchell
“I listen to Mumford and Sons and watch Robert Altman movies . Do you really think I'm black enough for the Union? “
-Dear White People
“The Gremlins are loud, talk in slang, are addicted to fried chicken and freak out when you get their hair wet. “
-Dear White People
We shouldn’t even be thinking about 1965, we should be thinking about 1985.
President Lyndon B. Johnson, Selma (via courtneyh2367)
I appreciate that it appears the president is more worried about what he leaves behind for the next generation and less about his approval ratings
