Hours before my 33rd bday and thinking back to my awkward, angsty, and pimply teenage years. One afternoon, this gangly high school freshman heard, "Raspberry Swirl," on West Texas "alternative" radio station, 95X. I called in to ask what I just heard, and they said, "Tori Amos, duh". I made my mom immediately drive me to Best Buy where I procured the life-changing album, "From the Choirgirl Hotel." I spent weeks listening on repeat, not understanding a thing, but knowing its strange intensity somehow defined me. Bragging one day to a cooler older art kid about my new love, she said, "You don't know anything," and lent me, "Little Earthquakes." I was never the same. Tori has been with me for all these years, but eventually her much of her music sort of turned to rubbish. But "Choirgirl" will always be by my side.
