Invictus

I’m going to a hockey game on Sunday. Islanders @ Sabres. I’m pretty excited about it but nobody else in my life (except my mom, who I bought the tickets for) even likes hockey. I tried to explain to my friends that we’re sitting three rows from the glass, right between the benches, but it didn’t register as anything significant to them.

None of my friends like baseball either, so they don’t get why I would want to go to Atlanta for my birthday to see the Braves play at home. But none of them understand my level of obsession with the Braves and my undying love for Chipper Jones. Or how devastated I was when I realized, within minutes of spending 435 nonrefundable dollars on hockey tickets, that I’ll be at the Sabres game on Sunday during Opening Day of baseball season.
