I would like to extend a thank you to Bill Barratt for illustrating a perfect example of what is wrong within the RMOW. Apparently the high salary and lifetime pension were not enough.  He has to sue his own community in an effort to extract everything he can from being a muni lifer.  It is very hard to put myself in his shoes and understand why he is doing this.  As someone whose income, among many others, hardly meets Whistler 2020's "minimum" adequacy threshold, It is impossible to see why someone with that much money feels they deserve more.   Sure the law and technicalities might be on his side, and if it is, then we have a glimpse into what is wrong with our society at large.  Just because something is legal does not mean it is moral.   This case is part of a much larger problem of taxpayer-funded corporate welfare.  Here in BC especially, government jobs (at every level) are considered desirable as they are much "cushier" than a similar position in the private sector.  With much less accountability and pressure for efficiency than a public corporation, government staffers have got it good.  I've seen the mismanagement firsthand while working for VANOC, which for all intents and purposes was an extension of the BC government.   The simple statistic of Mr. Barrat's $700/month vehicle allowance should be cause for unrest, as many people living in this town are lucky to have a vehicle worth 2 months that amount.   The fact that Mr. Barrat's ego believes he is entitled to $400k in public money is a great personification of the phrase "absolute power corrupts".  He is probably the best authority on the RMOW's genetic code, helping to shape the organizational structure into what it is today.  He helped incubate the culture of entitlement that I hope to dissolve should I be fortunate enough to be elected.  I would like to see him defend the accusation that this lawsuit is nothing more than pure greed. People with this type of penchant for power and greed for public funds do not deserve the title "civil servant" but rather "civil embarrassment".  Reforming the culture in Muni Hall is one of the pillars of my platform.  I would love to have conversations with as many people as I can during this election time, and to discuss ideas for practical ways of taking the sentiment of entitlement and greed out of our local government.
