hey, tumblr. It's been a while. I made it to the desert of Texas, and I've been here for a few months now.
I'm leaving in two weeks, though. Isolation does things to your mind.
Next stop, Virgin Islands. And before you go judging me and asking why the hell I keep moving around like this, every few months, I have a simple answer for you: I'm seeking absolution. A home to call my own. A safe haven. It'll probably forever elude me, but I have to chase it.
While I look for it, have a photo of me standing next to a massive cactus. Cheers.
my last day off in the Tetons.
We climbed 4,290 feet into Garnet Canyon, which led up to the lower saddle between the South and Middle Teton. I've never been so close to the tops of those mountains before, and it was...breathtaking. And terrifying. We were surrounded by countless boulder fields, from massive slabs of rocks to crumbly sand patches that pitched us around like rag dolls. At some point, I was literally hanging on for my life with my nails dug into the side of a dirt cliff that dropped off into a massive snow bank hundreds of feet below, my shaking legs trying to find holds on rocks jutting out that were no bigger than postcards. It was life-changing, to only be able to rely on the strength of your body to live. On the way back down, we spotted a (huge) mountain marmot. Hey there, fella.

Went on Beartooth Highway in Yellowstone today!
It started out like a normal day out here in the Tetons, with us waking up to a perfect sunrise on Mount Moran across Jackson Lake. It took us way longer than we thought to get across Yellowstone itself and on the mountain pass, yeah, but that was because of some sneaky little bastards crossing the road - the B.b. athabascae, or the American Bison. A whole herd of them. Crossing the road for like half an hour. At least we got front-row seats!
Past Yellowstone and Lamar Valley, we finally made it to the highest point of Beartooth Highway, but not before we stopped by "The Top of the World Store", where I went a little nuts with buying souvenirs. Where did all the money in my wallet go?!
The top of the pass - at an elevation of 10,947 outstanding feet - was literally the windiest place I've ever been in my life, period. I couldn't even comb my fingers through my hair when we got back into the car, and the proof is in photos. It looks like I have a really angry brown wig on my head, but it was worth it to step outside and snap some awesome photos of the mountains.
Worth it? Absolutely. I'm so, so happy that I could do this and use one of my last days off in Wyoming to the fullest. Tomorrow, it looks like we're climbing another mountain, this time Mt. St. John. Wish us luck. Excuse me while I break my hair brush.
