one thing i particularly love about the new olivia rodrigo album (you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love) is how, despite the escalation of the relationship only being first explicated in purple, even from the very first lovestruck tracks the sadness seeps into the lyrics, remaining true to the title: attempting to fight the obsessive fear that it’s too good to last (here’s to hoping), the sorrow that comes with simply being apart and the hardships of long-distance (that’s just a thing that happens when my baby goes away), diving headfirst into the relationship and ignoring past mistakes ([..]and tell me to take it slow this time, but i got a feeling), and the bitterness of jealousy (just… the entirety of my way). i just really appreciate how olivia, from the get-go, shows us how even what is seemingly the perfect love story can end in decay if you persistently choose to only keep the good side in consideration, without any regard for talking issues through in fear of it putting a wrench in its progression.
