Scales was originally a human- the child of a guy who worked for a MASSIVE fishing corp.

They came to The Marrows (and the surrounding area) because they heard there was good fishing!

They started essentially fishing out large areas, leaving very very few fish behind.

But for everything we take…

The Ocean takes back.

The Deep was not happy about the overfishing.

The ship was destroyed.

Scales had snuck onto the ship for unknown reasons. They don’t even remember.

They were the sole survivor, and they washed up on Greater Marrow.

They ended up staying with the fishmonger. Scales loved fish, and they didn’t mind the smell, so… they stayed there.

But… the fishmonger was being brought some rather strange fish.

Scales was drawn to them. Cod with three heads, Mackerel covered in lumps, Perch with nothing but giant maws filled with gnashing teeth. It fascinated them.

They’d sit in the back of the shop, poking at the malformed fish with sticks and rocks, making crude sketches of them in their sketchbook.

But the longer they spent with the strange fish, the more they… changed.

The dockworker would find them out at night, sitting at the dock, feeding the fish shredded bits of bait. They talked to the fish quietly, singing songs they’ve never heard before. When asked, they simply stated…

“The fish told me.”

And one day, they disappeared.
